put some f**k in power, and the money that backed him will talk. He wants to do away with free wireless internet, because the giant phone companies then wont be able to charge for it.

people hate oklahoma more than they hate Texas... Case in point...
Have you heard about the new multi-billion dollar zoo that Texas has invested in?
Ya they fenced in Oklahoma
And the crowd rejoices!

Yea I bet SBC had nothing to do with that too.....
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2005-01-03-fiber-cover_x.htm
BS and cox have spent millions already in anti campaign adds to stop a city from trying to run fiber to the home. Where bell south said they would not run it to the home but stop 500 feet short.
my favorite part
| Quote: |
Broadband rates in the USA are already among the highest in the world — $35 to $40 a month. And that's for relatively slow speeds of 1 to 2 megabits a second. In Japan, consumers pay about $15 a month for speeds of 30 megabits or better |
on top of all this there is a Cingular Call center located there, they have threatened to close the call center down if the fiber project moved on.
What a bunch of Babies they are scared of competition. And to threaten peoples jobs there that work for a wireless company not even the lan based company who happens to have the same parent company.

if the government can provide a service cheaper and better than the private sector then it says a hell of a lot about the private sector's s****y operation/s.

Government competing with private businesses, is unconstitutional. I think the law is a good one. It's a shame it is not followed in all instances.

True, the tech guys of texas are worth noting, as well as some really nifty aerospace organizations.

UPS and FedEx compete with USPS every day. or didnt you know that.
So which who would you like to see be dismantled?
United States Postal Service
or
Fed Ex
and
UPS
since you think that sort of thing needs to be done away with.
Oh yes. all of those private colleges and schools should go too.
Any sort of group that helps the needy, BUHHHHH BYE!
I'm liking your idea. sounds great. when do we start?

The USPS is an exception, as it is a required part of our infrastructure. UPS and Fedex came along to bring an affordable alternative to the current system. No, neither should be abolished.
For the record, the federal government has no business being involved in public education. The Department of Education is a joke.
The competition I feel this is more similar to, would be similar to the following.
What if the State started using prison inmates to build highways? They could do it far cheaper, practically free compared to the Department of Transportation.
