What the hell is going on here? I see on the news last night that the state police at Boston's airport are going to be carrying submachine guns now. Are people insane? I'd like someone to show me how machine gun carrying police could have stopped Sept 11, or in fact stopped one single terrorism problem at an airport in the US, ever in history. I can't actually recall an incident where a state cop said "yeah, I spotted the terrorist, but I just couldn't shoot enough bullets fast enough". I don't think that's ever happened, or even come closet to happening. I don't know about other people, but I personally feel a lot less safe, having to walk past guys with machine guns standing around all over the place.
The only scenario I can even conceive of where that would be a significant help would be an actual para-military assault on the airport by a team of heavily armed terrorists. But first of all, terrorists don't really work that way, and secondly I assume that there are heavy weapons available in lockers or bunkers or something that could be gotten to in relatively short order if necessary. Other than that, it seems like the whole thing is symbolic.
So for the rest of my life now, I have to feel like I'm living in a bananna republic, or a communist nation? All the reasons I was subtly taught to feel amazed contempt for anyone but Americans when I was a kid (machine gun toting soldiers in public places, government surveillance of citizens, the government monitoring what books you read, people being arrested for taking photos of landmarks, secret arrests, indefinite detentions) have all come true.

They could have fixed the airport security problem by raising the pay-scale so as to attract applicants with actual training in law enforcement.
Instead they just handed out uzis to all the dumbshits and mexicans that currently hack it for 11/hr at the metal detectors.

I didn't see the story, but Sinrakin said state police will be handling them, not airport security.

thats an improvement.... pre-9/11 security was primarily composed of former assistant managers of various Taco Bells from the metro area. you could sneak lit bongs past those guys.
edit: but upon further thought, it was mostly the softie stance affecting the entire nation that led to our security guards being downgraded to Juans and Pablos, nowadays we've put the beef back in our guardians and sent the beaneaters back to work washing the armed services whites and linens.

NEWS AT 6!!:
15 Dead and many injured. A police officer, who's name is yet to be released, was on patrol in a Boston airport. While on patrol he was eating a doughnut and when it slipped out of his hands he dove for it. In the effort to recover his pastry he dropped his new submachine gun. When it hit the ground [saftey off] it let loose a few rounds into a nearby crowd.

Dude, it needs to be 100 for children and babies too, they are SMALLER TARGETS, they should be worth bonus points. Old people are kind of easy because they can't dodge your bullets.

Guess if this bothers you, you should never leave the USA, cuz almost every international airport in the world (outside the USA) has security guards/police packing automatic weapons.

I see no problem with this i think all cops should have access to a type of machine gun it would stop alot of crime.
Like the time 2 guys with full body armour robbed a bank with AK 47's
(or they where full auto SKS's)
Alot of cops died becouse the pistols they were useing could not stop he guys.
They ended up going to a pawn shop and getting some high powerd hunting rifles to take one down while the other drove away.
Me thinks there gonna make a movie about this.
