So i was in auto tech today after the test my teacher says
Tim can you install this program on the computer?
I said sure.
So it was kinda gay it was one of those that you have to put a floppy and a CD rom in at same time.
After i installed it I asked how much was the program
2,800$ is what he said.
GOD DAMN! 2,800$ for 3 CD's and 3 floppys (program)
(also came with like 30 CDs that where about types of cars)
But come on now 2,800 dollers is a f*****g lot for a program.
I could buy a bad ass comp with that much!

That isnt very uncommon, actually. Many specialty applications used in some industry or another can cost upwards of 2 grand.
For example, 3d Studio Max costs around $3,500USD and Maya Unlimited only runs $7,000USD.

Software piracy drives prices up.
Regardless, Maya also has a free version. I'm told it comes with Unreal Tournament 2003 also.

We sell software tools that cost over $15000 per license.
It really depends on what you can do with the software.
If it saves you man-hours, especially engineering hours, it's worth the money.
Figure if you had to build your own software tool, and you had to devote 2 engineers @ 50k per year + (15k or more for benefits/401k), for 1 year, the software would cost you 130k to make.
If you made it, it's probably not gonna be as good, plus your engineers have to support it and improve it.
In the long run, sometimes it's more cost efficient to pay for the software.

2800 bux is fairly cheap for industry software.
although I am really sure that a highschool could do with a much more modest one. I'm a driver for CarQuest, an auto parts place and stores like them need high end programs like that, because of the vast amount of information needed, and the thousands of things that the store needs to use it for.
also larger garages, i.e. 4+ bay, need good software as well. my father owns a 4 bay garage and just dropped a pretty penny on a fully new system + software. makes you more money in the end though. instead of looking through 15 catalogs you press a few buttons and bam, full diagram and anything else you could want to know, and in case it doesn't you can call up and get full tech support. thats also what you pay for.
but a high school auto tech sure as hell doesn't need that hehe.
and theres things like C.A.S.S.T. that go around randomly and check if your using licensed software, well there is in Montreal anyway, if your not...bam 20,000$ fine.

You wouldnt say that if you were payed by a software company.
Seriously, some software should be purchase, and some of it doesnt warrant dropping the cash.
It all depends on what you do with it.
I don't think I should have to pay 700 bux for photoshop, when all i do is make pictures for fun. I dont make any money with it, so it doesnt deserve a 700 cost.
If I was a graphics artist by trade, and I made my income off artwork I made with photoshop, then i could see paying the money for it.
It's all about what you do with it.
