They suck. My network worked for about a month, but I can't get more than a faint, fleeting signal now. It's probably interference from something well out of my control...
edit: I should add that playing EQ was an unsatisfactory experience even when my network was up at full speed. Choppy, lots of zone drops.
Seriously, don't bother.

Atarom, you won't notice a speed difference between a wired and wireless network unless you have a t3 or other ridiculously high priced broadband connectionr running out of your house.
As far as interference goes, you have to be careful. There are alot of things that can cause intermittent or weak signals. I set these networks up all day and MOST of the time, I can get a strong, consistent signal if I'm within 25 or 30 feet of the router. After that, it's a gamble.
Hope that helps.

Any tips for avoiding interference besides wrapping my house in aluminum foil?
it's possible that we'd need to go farther than 25-30 feet. i could be wrong though.havent really measured it.
what's going to cause interference?
do i just have to go buy it and see if i like it? and if not take the shit back?
i'd really like to NOT have to be a fekking electrician. and go digging through the walls and installing jacks and such. but if that's gonna be easier and more reliable than wireless, i'll do it.

That is wonderful. Are you acceptably fed and watered? I hope you are not thirsty or perhaps a little hungry.

I'll have to ask my neighbors what they installed last weekend. Whatever it was, it fried my network and my corldess phone. I tried all week to get something to boost my signal ('cause I surely can't block theirs), and haven't found anything that works.

Yeah, just recently got a wireless router here, and having a 2.4ghz phone or whatever seems to cause a problem when its in use (something about being on the same frequency, I think?)... causes the router to reset and such, really annoying. as for the wireless performance not really sure, got the computers hardwired into it still, just got it so the laptop could use the connection whenever.

My best friend has a wireless setup at his house with 3 dells. They all run fast and his DL speeds stay between 200 to 300kbs.

Most of the interference is from cordless phones on the 2.4GHz frequency. It's the same frequency that wireless home networking routers use. You probably won't find a wireless router for home use that uses a different frequency. You can always change the frequency that the phone uses though. You just have to hit the channel button. That assumed you have a multi-channel phone (which just about every phone is now).
Other things have caused problems is too much metal in the area (a problem in 'ultra-modern' style houses). Another problem is extensive electrical wiring between the router and NIC. Extensive means MUCH more than usual. I've only seen that once to be honest. Moving the router worked fine to remove the interference though.
If you think you're going to have a signal problem because of range, get a Linksys router and a signal booster or a D-Link router with a range extender. The signal booster and the range extender basically double the cost of the router but I don't know of any other method to extend the range on those routers.
