always wonderd who the f**k pays the server costs of this site, .. and if they get so much traffic why the f**k ther isnt madd advertisers offering assloads of cash for their site to be seen by the thousands of lifeless, post prodging, flaming geeks?

Because the site doesn't really get that much traffic. Sure, there are lots of hits, but the fact is that 90% of those hits come from the same 75-100 users, over, and over, and over again.
Furthermore due to the fact that realpoor isn't actually an open forum (you have to register to view the actual board) the odds of attracting new members is extremely low.

i believe he splits it with his [roommate/brother/friend/buttbuddy].
he takes donations, and if the listing is correct, he's received more money than the server has costed him. (if he's splitting the costs like i thought he was)

I typically donate $20-30 a month to Ishmabobbin to help defray costs. I also try and keep the back end stuff running smooth so that he or his roomie don't have to do much work to it. (And end up cancelling it!)
He always forgets to update the donate amounts tho.

A: because the people who come here would b***h whine moan groan and cry about them until they were removed.
what we have already in top rigth corner nice and small caused enough complaints when enlarged.
its fine the way it is now, most of us have ignored them so well that we forget they were there ...... until this thread.

Actually the last time there were ad banners the people who put the banners on were complaining about how crass the site was or something and that they didn't want their company represented in such a way, I can't see the text box that I'm typing into so any typos you will have to live with

It's MEEEEE! I used to split the cost with Ish, but since his roommate wants to quit his job at random I told ish not to worry about the payments anymore. Besides I just keep rp on my backup server that is mainly for storage. Just from the HTML only part of realpoor the server still goes through 100gb of traffic a month. I have a 700gb bandwidth limit so I don't mind if Realpoor generates even half of that.
I have the ads at the top, but nobody clicks on them. Most of them are pretty generic and I like the fork lift that fell off the loading dock with the missile. Realpoor only provides about a .001% Click through ratio which sucks, but the banners are the same so I don't blame everybody for not wanting to click on them.
I'm working on an ad system that displays the ad based on the content of the website, but that's still months down the road. I won't display popups though. They don't make much more than the standard banner. Oh well.
But just because Realpoor is paid for it doesn't mean Ish still doesn't need the donations.
He kept the site going even when it cost him his job.
