gonna buy one later this week. everything i've read or been told seems to take me back to Plextor. so my question is which one? plextor 712a or the 716a?

12 speed versus 16 speed burn
$80 versus $120

i guess is the extra 4 speed worth the ~$40? anyone know of any issues with either one that i haven't been told about yet?

the choice between $80 and $120 is easy.

if you have a real job, spend the extra $40.

if yer strapped and smoking weed and free loading off of your parents or crashing at your friends house, go for the $80. You won't really notice the extra 60 seconds the 16 speed will save you / disk.

i bought a dual layer DVD burner for like 60 bucks or something on newegg

NEC

works like a charm

ive been burning at lower speeds though for DVDs just in case mainly because my friend told me he was having trouble burning at higher speeds with xbox games and DVDs are too expensive to keep throwing out

also there are some DVDs that list the NEC burner at a lower speed for their recommended speed .. others do not .. so i guess it depends on what DVDs you buy

i dont really burn that many DVDs to care if burning my 4.7 gigs of data takes 15 minutes at 2x speed

lol samsung? hahahhaha they're not even in the ballpark for burners.

Sorry but the plextor 716a is rated the fastest burner right now u can get.
nuff said. Still havent had a tosser to this date (still using the 708a) .. 716SA just came out recently (Serial ATA) and the front loader out this month too.
newegg had a crazy one day sale on the 716 2 weeks ago... but the difference in price is 30 dollars from the 712 and the 716, also note the 716 can burn Dual Layer at 4x and the 712 does not.
that should cut your decision easier Smile
