what it is about this game that is so addicting. I cant think of any other game where i would be happy going to a camp spot sitting there for hours and hours on end and only doing something as simple as hitting auto attack or healing ........

come to think of it i was never really all that happy doing it.

This game is so void of any real excitment. Granted there are moments but they are far to few and far between . Mainly involve doing something for the first time. after that it gets lammer and lammer every time.

I think it was Beels or someone else who figured it out. It's all about the virtual penis. After a while the only reason people play is to get loot.

hah, social interaction is just an excuse to play the game. 95% of the people I met in that game were p****s. I only met about one or two people who I would even consider a friend.

I love how people play EQ, then are so quick to bash it after they got 1,2 or even 3+ years of entertainment value.

I bet you folks are the same people that trade your 40 year old wife in for two 20 year olds... and b***h about having to do it.

Grow up and quit b******g about EQ. You played it, you liked it, you got bored, STFU and drop it. We don't CARE if you don't like it anymore! We still do, and all the p*****g and moaning you do would prolly be better searching for those 2 20 year olds you are gunna need at age 40..

I still like it, I don't hate it at all.. and I'm not bashing it. Even when I played, I knew it was for the loot... and I knew that was the only reason I played.

I played it, I enjoyed it, but what I enjoyed about it was the virtual penis. I'd probably still enjoy it if I hadn't quit out of frustration with the people who play it.

In general EQ is a s****y game created idiots. I succeeds because of its concept, that concept is the virtual penis.

It is about the penis. It's about people saying "OMG! you have the uber robe of leet". Why else would people sit through the endless fear or hate raids. A chance at a rare drop.

I did have fun when I played Razz

Actually, that is his opinion. For a lot of people, playing Everquest isn't about the loot.

If it was just about loot, people would all be bored fast.
Items make raids worthwhile, but many of the best times I have had in EQ have been when guildchat has got so funny it hurt to laugh any more.
Friends are what it is all about.

Insert bitter "you can't have real friends in EQ because yadayada yada" post.

Learn to have fun in the game and maybe you will get some too.

That explains why I don't care to play much anymore.

Guildchat has fallen all but silent for me and I never had much of a virtual penis complex goin'.

This is true but at the same time, utter b******t. The game is just about loot and people did get bored with it, why do you think the vast majority of people who played pre-Kunark no longer play the game? Furthermore why do you think Verant has to keep coming out with expansions? They have to redefine what it means to be uber. Paw and Velketors got revamped, why? Because they were dramatically under-used zones. Why? Because the loot and exp sucked.

The game is all about advancing your character, thus making your virtual penis bigger. When it gets to the point where there are too many at such a level, Verant puts out another expansion that allows you to tack on a few more inches to your virtual penis to keep people playing.

Friends? Heh, if that were the case then get their contact info, and send them an email or talk to them over AIM/ICQ/MSNM/Whatever. But whats this? You enjoy playing EQ with them! Of course, **** without a partner isn't as much fun either. You can continue kidding yourself if it makes you feel better but no matter how hard you try the result is the same, EQ is a game of the penis. It has nothing to do with friends, you don't lose friends because of quitting EQ, all you have to do is send them an email, yet so many people refuse to quit "because of their friends" - They're fools.

EQ isn't the only chat medium on the internet, infact you're using a different one right now!

Minion is right on on all of his points except for the friend one. Hanging out with them wherever is alot more fun than talking to them over aim, which is the reason I kept playing the last few months that I did. Anyone that is end one of the end guilds and thinks that loot isn't the driving force is kidding themselves =/.

Improper sentence form. "How" (when not used in a question) implies an explanation about something. Proper form would be, "All I can think about, is how arrogant and stupid you are, Minion." (note: I used "think" not "say" because you didn't follow up your statement with any explanation and had no credibility to begin with.)

Tips on improving your flaming...
1) When calling people stupid, use proper grammar.
2) Fight arguments with facts or at the very least, opinions.
3) Replying with "one liners" is an obvious sign that you've got no idea what you're talking about.
4) In regard to 3, it's better to just not reply than to reply and let everyone know you're a failure.

I likereading the game lore (which is surprisingly good unlike many of the quests), running around killing things in cool places, and killing guards and notable npc's (notable as far as game lore anyway). levels/experience/loot is secondary.
I simply acquire enough to do what I enjoy, and leave it at that.

Well I could try to lecture about how EQ is an escape from problems of real life as a means of having a "better" life, but I won't. Personally, I see it as a potential investment. Sure, it may sound VERY corny but think of it...you build your character(s) up then you sell the account. Hopefully you can get a little more out of it then what you put into it. This may be a very small amount but you have to take into consideration that you had fun in the process.

Just my 2cp.

Any RPG works on the virtual penis method. Be it by quests, items, money, power. Just like the real world works for your penis!

Both answers are correct, but there is a third answer also. It allows people to be something they are not. I think we all have seen many instances of people who act 'big' in game, because they have low self esteem in RL; or just 'bully' people in game, because they are wimps in RL.

Also, to add to the loot(virtual penis) reasoning would be character advancement. Instead of uber loot they need the advancements(highest level, first to do something, etc.) to brag about.

You have to look at each person to see why they play, for most its a combination of one or more of the reasons given in the thread.
Friends would probably be the majority answer, but if that was the only reason, then why don't they just sit in the Nexus and talk?

Actually, my "one liner" was the only way I could express how (yeah that's right -how-) I felt after that reading your worthless post.

And Clevinger, that's only true for people actually in high end guilds. Well, I guess that's unfair. People could have been with a guild for a long time and ended up doing high end stuff, but it's still the people in the guild that keeps them playing.
