another random question from the non EQ player lol - the AOW question led to another!

Shielding - does 30 Shielding mean you literally take 30% less melee damage? (likewise for spell and DOT shielding)

Avoidance - does 100 avoidance mean you avoid 100% more attacks than you would? (avoiding 100% would seem a bit much)

Combat Effects - what exactly does + 50 to combat effects do?

all that weird stuff seemed like when M:TG added phasing and other strangelings - just no real interest in it for me.

but to answer your question, shielding is what brael does when he sees the sun

+10 avoidance is like 1% more avoidance

Shielding caps at like 35% and only works on the base damage of a mob

What does 35% shielding do when you're being hit by a mob for 100 damage every hit?

its like mobs hit for say 100 (base damage), then they also hit for a modifier from like 0-19N (where N is any number usually smaller than the base damage). Say N is 25. Someone named this the damage interval somewhere, I'm going off memory.

That means the mob could hit you for 100-600. 35% shielding would mean the mob hits you for 65-565 instead, because it only works on the base damage, not the damage interval.

(shit like this I remember and then when I can't find my car keys some days really p****s me off!)

Yeah, Frax nailed it on the head. Shielding only takes off the DB, damage base (min hit) and not the DI, damage interval. So for example the boss in Tacvi has a DB of 3100, 30% shielding takes off 930 off of that. So it would hit for only 2170.

anyone have info on "Dodge Mod's" and "Improved Dodge III" type mods?

Dodge mod usually looks like..... Dodge 8% or something, and Improved Dodge looks like a focus effect , were like Allah's will say its like 10% chance to doge or something...

my question is, whats the new dodge mod cap? how much Improved dodge works? and do both of these effects stack?

Skill mods and foci stack, but only the highest of each takes hold.

Everquest programmer says to another, "Let's put in these new modifiers on armor so they play more seeking upgrades, but we have to be really vague and never tell them exactly what they do, which is basically nothing!"

Sadly it's true. I don't see why people put like 2% augs on their armour when in reality, that is such a minimal number....

I can just see it in 2007:

The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire goes on a RAMPAGE!
The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire hits YOU for 7990 points of damage!
The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire hits YOU for 7990 points of damage!
The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire hits Turbodethmaker for 7990 points of damage!
The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire hits Turbodethmaker for 7990 points of damage!
Turbodethmaker has been slain by The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire.
The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire tries to hit you, but you parry!
You suffer 6000 points of damage from The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire's Promethean Lozzle Nozzle!
The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire hits YOU for 7990 points of damage!
You have been slain by The Fabled Fennin Ro the Tyrant of Fire!
Tepez's Complete Healing heals you for 18750!
LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You say to your raid, 'wtf i died 2 lag'

Then 4 weeks later someone kills him and his 84 adds with 6 rangers and a shaman.

The high end fabled stuff is better than all PoTime stuff and a lot of lower end GoD stuff. It's on part with Inktu`ta/Txevu loot. And the mobs are easy as allFuck.
