go to the manufacturer's website of you card
www.ati.com
or
www.nvidia.com
download drivers (newest version i'd avoid betas for now)
these are usually self extracting files - *.exe
double click it and follow the install - you'll reboot and bam you are done

go to www.guru3d.com and they will tell you how to properly uinstall drivers and install new ones.
It is a few steps because if u dont install drivers right, they wont perform properly.

Yah its best to completely uninstall the old driver. Then go into safemode and use a driver cleaner to get rid of the crap it leaves behind. Reboot and install the new driver. Reboot again and your done!
