Are there any wide open area later in game? its kind of what I enjoyed the most from the past doom games...have lots of mobs around you ..having to strafe etc...so far the game only contain some very closed battle.

There's one nice battleround where you can run around all you like. Unfortunately, there is an Atma Weapon chasing you.
Or was it a Sr. Behemoth? Hard to tell.

I just use the control key to switch the flashlight on and off. If you hit your flashlight button while it is still up you will switch to your previous weapon.
Shooting in the dark to me makes the game more fun. Hacks take away from the way it was intended to play. Being able to see everything makes it to easy. Part of the fun of this game is when you are searching for something like a PDA, medkit or weapons is when something busts out from behind a panel or from behind you and you have to switch over to a weapon to defend yourself.
I do hate that I am looking around and under shit all the time with my flashlight though.

I like the darkness, too, but at certain points in the game it's ridiculous. Like when you're following those little bottled imps up on the trams and they turn the lights completley off.

Funny enough, the name of the mod that did this is called the "duct tape mod"!! LAFFO! It takes away from the atmosphere the first time through, but going through the game again without that mod sure is annoying!

Ya all that's fine and dandy, but it's hardly unrealistic to have a gun (especially in doom3 time period) witha FRIGGIN LASER BEAM ON ITS HEAD!
I wouldn't mind haveing the shotgun or the pistol with flashlights on them, I dont think it would detract from the game too much, it would be more realistic actually.

I'm having more fun replaying Ultimate Doom/Doom2 than I was playing Doom3. It's just not the same. It's like they took single player halfllife, replaced some models, took out all forms of lighting, put it in a box and called it Doom3.
This game would have been ten times more enjoyable if they focused less on graphics and a plot and more on KILLING LARGE QUANTITIES OF MONSTERS. Seriously, you don't fight more than like 4 monsters at a time. Doom was all about killing 40 monsters at once. Sheesh. It's not a bad game, but it fell way below my expectations.

Lol there's this one part where I was walking next to a counter, so I jumped up to see the other side and it was empty, but when I turned the corner there was an imp there all crouched. I was dismayed.

I use every gun to conserve ammo...I'm not sure if that's even logical but it seems to work.
For the tiny white spiders I use pistol or Machine gun,
for Imps; Shotgun or Machine gun, sometimes pistol..
Lost Souls: Machine gun or Plasma Rifle
Teleporting demon things: Shotgun 1 hit quitter
Two headed thing with Orange eyes: Shotgun 1 hit quitter
Crazy Bull Demon: Shotgun or the big machine gun or the plasma rifle
Marine Zombies: Shotgun or Machine gun
Zombies: Pistol
So far those are the only monsters I've come across...I think u guys hav ea point too, I think the monsters should have come in never ending supply somewhat, and the amount of ammo should have been upped in the levels. The spiders should also crawl up and down the walls to pounce on you, it would make it even harder and scarier. :O

Thats true. But the game is supposed to, for the most part be dark and scarey. I guess either the designers were not thinking or they wanted you to have to use the flashlight making you need to switch faster. Either way after I beat the game with no cheats or mods I will probably go through the game with god mode and ultradamage , noclip, keys to all doors and codes to all lockers etc. But it is no fun to me to do it that way yet. To each their own I guess.

I restarted and gave myself all ammo so that I could shoot the people working in Mars City.
Also, if you clip in behind the secretary at the beginning of the game (at the desk by your duffle bag) you can see what he's writing on the computer. He types a snide comment in the bottom lefthand corner of his screen =P

Yep its exactly what I enjoyed from the previous doom games. Mass killing and fun I could care less about the graphics I want action.

So you have the best PC game ever released, the coolest single-player experience ever conceived, and instead, all you want is mindless killing. Wtg.

Yeah, I wanted a more realistic game rather than rooms full of imps. This game actually has the feel of a base. Delta Labs 4 was disgusting.
The only unrealistic part for me was how walls open to reveal monsters. It's hard to believe the monsters would just sit there waiting for you behind a wall.
