LOL Bose doesnt suck, although it wouldnt be my first choice...first choice would be Klipsch or Creative Labs. If money isnt an issue, Harmon Kardon or Vienna Accoustics is the bomb. If you want great value for the money, go Boston Accoustics for sure.

I think he is wanting a whole stereo for that amount? Im not sure.

To have a decent system, all you need to worry about are the speakers and receiver. If you are strapped for cash, you can get just the front pair and skip the center channel. Then get a receiver and dvd/cd player. You might be able to do it for $600. You will really need to figure out exactly what you want and then shop around a lot, in stores and online. I spent a month looking. I got my front pair of Klipsch and center online (brand new, never opened) for 25% of retail (I was really lucky). I got my receiver online for about 50% of retail.

best buy had these badass leather chairs which seriously were the best things in the entire f*****g world, ever.

So personally i would go buy one of them and since they were 300 i would spend the other 300 on some sound system from creative or klipsch.. logitech is decent too in that price range... surround sound is really overrated tho imo, it doesnt increase the movie experience all that much, a quality 2 speaker system does more for ya but oh well, the best chair in the world is definitly higher on the list of ownage things than any speaker system since you really cant enjoy music however great it sounds without an awesome chair.

if you are wanting to only spend $600 for some sort of receiver and a pair of speakers. you are gonna get shit for one of them. a decent receiver will run you $300 minimum and quite frankly the $400 ones are the route to go. (i only buy sony so i'm biased) that doesn't leave much left for speakers.

now i know this sounds stupid, but if you are looking along the lines of a compact stereo. check out Aiwa. yeah yeah, go listen to a good $400-500 system and then you'll see how good it is for what you are spending and see my point.

bose sucks so bad . when i get some time ill find the links. there are lots of webpages dissing them and show what a joke they are when compaired to any other speeker brand in the price range. anyone who really enjoys music and spent time looking at speekers knows about the bose myth ....... this is what ya get when ya spend more then 10 times as much as any competetor in advratising .

two best speekers out there in my opion are
http://www.paradigm.com/
http://www.bwspeakers.com/

find out who sells these and bring in your faviote CD's it will blow your mind , doubly so if they have bose so you can listen to the differance . bose only sound good when you have nothing to compare them too ....

here is one review of bose

No Highs, No Lows, Gotta Be BOSe

I personally knew a guy that worked as one of Bose's travelling reps (I went to school with him). It took me awhile, but I got him to admit to that very statement. He could have gotten Bose speakers at an unbelievable discount (75% off?) working for the company, but he had a pair of Legacys, not a pair in his house. I thought it was a little humorous myself.

I have a full JBL surround sound setup with a Yamaha receiver and a toshiba dvd player. The original subwoofer cube that came with the system died after 3 hard-use years, so i replaced it with another JBL cube, the 200 watt 12" PB12 model (last year).

Whole thing cost me:

original set:
5 cubes (2 front + 2 rear + 1 center) + 100 watt subwoofer
$400 (that was 4 years ago)

Today they offer a similar one:
http://www.jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.asp?ProdId=SCS136SI&SerId=SCS&sCatId=HCS
$350

Replacement upgraded subwoofer: $400 (last year)
http://www.audioreview.com/pscSpeakers/Subwoofers/JBL/PRD_124897_2741crx.aspx

I think they have a similar new model but it's not a down-firing cube like this one. To be honest, you don't even need this much power unless you want to p**s people off (neighbors/roommates/etc). I did just fine with the original but since it broke and i had money, i upgraded)

Yamaha Receiver:
HTR-5450 (~$300 2 years ago)
(Dolby Digital®, DTS®, S-Video routing, fiber optic/coaxial/rca)

http://www.epinions.com/615722_Yamaha_HTR_5450_5_Channel_Receiver/display_~full_specs

You could buy this same unit as an overstock older item for $150->$200 or get a new model with similar features for $250->$350

Toshiba dvd player ($200 4 years ago) connected with fiber optic cable for dolby digital and DTS.

Today you can get something just as good for $60->$100

I paid: 400+400+300+200 = 1300. I bought the stuff piece by piece to replace a legacy stereo setup my father bought me years earlier.

If you shopped around today, you probably could find the same setup for quite a bit less. I'd think about 350 + 250 + 100 = 700 bucks, but that's without the upgraded sub. I know there are a few overstock older model receivers and speaker sets available, those could be a massive savings for you. You might also try eBay, but luck will definitely have to play into a purchase from there.

sony doesnt make any quality products any more, the only sony thing i would ever recomend is their dvd-r s but not because theyre good but because they can usually be found at under a dollar a disc.

Sony still makes great TV's, a few good options for cheep dvd players and one good digital camera . dont think id buy anything else from them . recivers and speakers are total junk.

for speekers it is hard to beat B&W or Paradigm, i really like denon recievers , DVD players id go with denon or rotel and velodyne makes the best subs.
