Taken from N.C. Department of Transportation website:
| Quote: |
If you are getting a license, learner’s permit or an ID card for the first time in North Carolina, you will need to provide proof of your identity and your date of birth. You will also need to provide proof of your residence address and proof of either a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). You will need to show proof of automobile liability insurance if you will be driving a personal vehicle or something other than a fleet vehicle (rental car, company car).
|
In summary, as long as you are in a vehicle, and can show proof of insurance for it (Mom or Dad's car), then you will be eligible for licensing. Most minors are not able to afford insurance, much less a car at that age. So go to the DMV with either one of your parents (make sure you studied first), pass the written, pass the driven, and recieve your DL! Become a man! Don't let them haters get you down!
Edit: adding link to NCDOT for you for valid forms of ID to take
http://www.dmv.dot.state.nc.us/driverlicense/faq/ |
You have to be under your parents insurance yes I know.
My dad will not put me under him.
I have asked. |
Your stupidity amazes me some times. Or maybe it's ignorance... basically the same thing.
You don't have to be ON the insurance to drive the car for the test. The car has to be INSURED, the car not you.
Once again, the car used in the test has to be insured, it does not matter if you're on it or not. Don't believe me? Call your DMV.
Unless of course the test in NC takes place on the road, the test in Atl was in this little area where they tested your ability to turn, signal, park, look both ways always look both ways you know no one's coming but they take points off when you don't look both ways, and your ability to come to a safe stop going about 35.
If the test does not take place on the road, once again: you're an idiot.

Takes place on the road in SC, since I moved to NC I just got it renewed, with the little 25 question test.
BTW I remember one of the questions was: how many motorcyclists were killed the previous year. WTF

How far do you stop from a railroad crossing. That question is the devil.
Also, when on the highway and you see someone trying to merge onto the highway do you:
A. Change lanes allowing him to get in.
B. Slow down so that he can get infront of you.
C. Speed up, allowing him to get behind you.
D. Maintain your speed and lane.
My dad got this question wrong when he was renewing his, I got it right =/

No I have to have insurance!
You CAN'T get your licence unless you have a policy or is under one.
I don't care what you know or think you know.
i'm going by what they told me and every person who has gotten licence in the past 2 years has told me.
Now if you wan't to talk some more shit I'll give you the # to the local DMV. You can ask them your self.

Sure I'll take the number, doesn't mean I'll actually call. Well maybe I will, talking to hicks makes me giggle.

I'm not going to bother to read NC's laws on this, but honestly it sounds like your old man is screwing you over. That's got to suck, too bad you can't get out of there.

Nah he ain't screwing me over.
I just need a job and problem solved.
Plus he is buying me vehicle so. I wont have to pay a car payment every month.
Only reason he wont put me under him is because they told him that his insurance would go sky high.
He has full insurance on all 3 of his vehicles.
Insurance company's don't like unexperienced drivers.

It won't go sky high, he's been fed misinformation.
Parents always put their children on their insurance initially, it's just the way it goes.

More than one vehicle on a plan = discounted rate
I'm insured under my wife's grandparents. I pay 50ish bucks a month.
It would be high if an unexperienced driver drove an expensive sports car, otherwise you're being lied to

I have 1 speeding ticket in atlanta, 3 accidents all at the fault of others 1 in atlanta 2 in arizona (people in tucson do not know how to drive)
Mine is low because I'm insured on Nari's grandparents insurance and they're in their 60-70s
When I got a quote for myself it was 600 for 6 months, full coverage.
