powerdvd is all i use... never had a problem and yes you do need a DVD drive.

powerdvd all the way.
i have yet to se a better program.
windvd and all the budled ones suck ass.

PowerDVD is the only program I've found that has good reliable DTS decoding. Great program.

ya i tried win dvd and a few other things that saposed to make WMP play them but it always gives me that b******t message about how i need to lower my screan resolution and color depth.

ya it media player plays dvds...if you pay for an external decoder ie powerdvd windvd ...so whats the point

powerdvd works great.
one odd thing though. the control panel only came up the very first time i used it, now only the window with the movie comes up. F keys still work so it really doesn't matter i guess ....
