anyone doing the loy research for the old spells. i have a few spells i dont have like the vah shir illusion and dementing visions. i dont really need them with the pop spells i have but i want to have a full spellbook.
anyone know where i can get

are these mobs soloable like exp mobs or are they raid type mobs

It's like old components... if the spell is level 52, expect the pieces to drop off mobs a little below that.
I've either gotten Keris 5 or 7 (or maybe both) out of Fungus Grove. As a pally I never really paid attention, but I've got to believe a level 50ish mob (like many of those shrooms) would drop componets for level 54 spells.
Easy to solo, but I wouldn't recommend farming them for pieces because a.) they're not common drops and b.) it's insanely boring.
I'm sure there are better spots.

i hope that is the case. if they arent in loy only zones i am set then. i can wipe out a patch of shrooms in fg fairly quickly. i dont play a whole lot anymore. maybe an hour now and then. i dont want to exp in that hour i can get some components maybe. ill have use for my animation again.

drop alll over the zones (I haven't seen them in POP tho, but that doesn't mean anything) Vel, luclin, old old world etc.......

Place I have found the most of them, including 3 sets for Illusion Vah Shir is off the Enforcers and punishers in PoJ. Back when they first put the new components in but hadnt added the research ability yet I was 2 boxing in there and by end of the night had to start destroying them cause I was full, gave away 2 plus backpacks of words, runes and mage stuff. Of course then they added the Priest research and my Shammy still needs some spells so guess I need to go collecting more.
Seems if a component is only used in a Lvl 60 spell, it only drops off Lvl 60 plus mobs, but only some mobs seem to drop the new stuff. I know the Hobgoblins and Nightmares in PoN dont drop any since thats where I been playing lately.
