I was at my doctor's office getting a physical and he was drawing blood to test kidney and liver functions as well as cholesterol. I asked him while he was at it if he could pull out another vial of blood and screen for syph and HIV. He replied "sorry we don't do that".
Now this didn't make any sense. If I did have syph or the clap, I'd be going to him for treatment anyways, wouldn't it make sense they be equipped to screen for STDs also? Just seemed kind of odd. Do I just need another doctor? Maybe I just have a crappy doctor.

who knows how they screen for it tho, treatment they can prolly give but i imagine screening takes special chemicals and shit they might not have... dont really know the process but maybe it somethin like that anyway... would be the only thing that makes sense unless he just doesnt like to do it which is possible... he doesnt have to treat you for things he doesnt want to.

well, yeah... I mean you can get STD testing done in any number of places. At the recent street fairs in SF (Folsom and Castro) they have a number of free screenings by the local STD clinics and non-profits. There isn't a huge lack of resources, but STD clinics are kind of sketchy, I don't like them personally I would be much more comfortable going to my doctor who deals with and would deal with all my other issues anyways.

Galdaria, anyone who is **** active in any capacity should make it a point to routinely get tested for all STDs. It's not a gay thing, it's not a straight thing, it's just something that everyone should get into the habit of doing, unless of course you're abstaining which is honorable but not as common. Abstinence isn't for everyone. For those who don't like the idea, they may as well be active about their own health.

He doesn't want to sit in an STD clinic with the scary people who are testing for std's. It's like me, uhh example. I don't want to ride the bus with scary poor people, unfortunately I am a scary poor person.

I did elaborate in my first post. I said that if I did turn up with syph or the clap I would most likely go to my doctor to get treated anyways. That's what I meant.

Really? I didn't read that clause in my insurance contract. It's not like they test on site anyways. They send it to a lab to get it run through. The same labs that STD clinics send their blood samples to.

I use these. They're great. You can only test your cholesterol with them tho and for STDs the only thing you can test for is HIV. There are no other reliable home testing kits on the market, and no plans to make any either. Only HomeAccess is FDA approved and as accurate as lab tests.
eh.. I'm looking at that picture.. is that heroin? That doesn't look like any home testing kit I've ever seen... none of them use syringes, only finger stickers like the ones you use to test your insulin levels.
