About how much time do you guys generally put into prepping for raids, per day? I ask because what I hear from some more experienced players sounds like an awful lot, isn't it too much of a waste of time to spend three or four hours each day just in preparation, trying to get the gear you need? I'm not sure I'll have as much fun raiding as everyone says I will…

A couple of hours per day is not too much, it's pretty much the standard amount.
As to how much fun you'll have, that largely depends on your favored style of play.

You can buy some of the stuff you need before raids from AH. 3-4 hours a day is exagerated.
Stuff to get ready before raids:
Mana/Health potions. (herbs cheap in AH)
Food Buffs. (by fishing or killing beasts)
Superior mana oil/Superior wizard oil
Making sure you buy enough class specific reagents.
Repair your armor.
Learn the boss fights through guides/movies on the internet
I've listed what I do before raids and it does not take me 4 hours maybe max. 1 hour.

I would usually spend about 4 hours in the beginning of the raid week farming/buying the mats I need for that weeks raiding. That way even if something came up before raids I would still be able to login at raid and be prepared for the raid.

I spend like an hour of prep each day. I log on an hour early and make sure I have all my stuff for the raid.
Refill Pots, food, flasks etc. from the previous night and go over all my macros/buttons and such.

When I used to raid, it was maybe 2 hours a week. Too lazy to farm my mats for pots, consequently, I was very poor.

but geting the gear is worth it because raids is the only thing that makes the game crazy to play.

In my previous guild when we were pushing for progression thru TK/SSC I used to farm so much herbs for making elixirs/flasks. That's prob cauz most my time in wow was farming anyway, i found it serene as it was something that i could do solo. anyway back on tracks, nowdays i just buy marks to trade in for the shattrah flasks lol. that and end game contents are cleared so pplz are more relaxed.
