How noisy would a DDR pad be on top of some thick gymnastic mats? I've seen some videos and the ones I saw were not too impressive. The people looked like they would barely work up a sweat. I thought it was supposed to be hardcore good cardio?

It all depends on the difficulty you choose.

If the song is inherantly easier, 90bpm and you're playing light mode, chances are it won't be too great of exercise or noisy at all. Playing light mode usually means you'll be doing a 4/4 beat with your feet; easy stuff, no 1/8 or 1/16 steps, very few holds, none of which will be tricky whatsoever once you get used to the game and/or song. Then you just progress from there.

In a word - No.

It's seriously not possible to play anything but the most basic song on a 2nd floor appt, period.

And yes, the higher levels are the most intense cardio possible for just about anyone. The only people who don't get a HUGE benefit from it are very short people with low bodyweight.

Just play DDR using the controller or your PC like the real pros do. Don't be a dancing f****t.

I bet I got a lot more play (from women) on the dance floor than you ever did sitting at your PC playing with your joystick.

What a silly thing to say.

DDR'ing on a 2nd floor apartment would be like using a subwoofer.

Its basically an eviction notice with a power (or controller!) cord.

If you're using a normal mat, dont do it...if you have one of those steel arcade pads like at the mall, it'll be fine. Those you can get for about $40 on EBay.

Unless you've purchased one, I think that figure is just a tad low. I think for a two-player set up (with the bars) it's about $120. Then again, that might be buy-out prices, and, due to WoW, that's all I look at anymore. Sad

I bought one about about six months ago. Its the exact same thing as the arcade pad, minus the bars.

Here's a link to one thats at $50 now...but it looks like since that new DDR game came out recently the prices on these have gone up a bit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21188&item=8161825763&rd=1

Yeah, those shipping rates are crazy. Im just assuming its the new ddr games that've come out making those prices crazy. Mine was like $40 and $20ish shipping. Still cheaper total than what these guys are wanting for just the shipping.

But Extreme sucks aside from a few songs. Sad

And, hell, the format for picking songs is uglier too!

OMG if you really want a workout, put it on Heavy and play Flight of the Bumblebees. That's probably my favorite classical song and it'll make you move faster than you ever have in your entire life. You might even break a bone or sprain something. My friend plays DDR for fun and used to for cardio (he lost a good amount of weight).
But yea, playing DDR on the second floor apartment really is an eviction notice waitin to happen.

I live on the 2nd floor and use a treadmill regularily - never had anyone complain about it. Just get it, If they complain you can always return it.

I get enough jogging and weightlifting. If you don't vary your exericse you'll get bored and quit. Besides, fitness is 2nd part of DDR and fun is primary. Smile

DDR on 2nd floor apartment = worst idea ever.

The kid above me had a little DDR party last week Thursday. I kind of regret not springing for the extra $20 a month for the 3rd floor (top floor).
