In OG, I keep hearing about thes guys who have 300+ field planets, but I never managed to get a planet with more than 140 fields. Am I missing something important here, or is it just plain bad luck? Is there any way to tell how big a planet is before you colonize it? Also, is there some way to increase the number of fields on a planet?

Generally, you should aim for planets at slots 4-6, maybe 7. These tend to be the largest, and have the most fields of course. No matter what size your planet is, you should always plan ahead and avoid wasting your fields on projects you don't really need. Also, you can increase the effective size of your planet by building a terraformer. It costs one field, but provides 5 more.

Alrite here's everything you need to know bout planet sizes

these are the awerage planet sizes
position 1: awerage: 64, 60% from 48 to 80 fields
position 2: awerage: 68, 60% from 53 to 83 fields
position 3: awerage: 73, 60% from 54 to 82 fields
position 4: awerage: 173, 60% from 108 to 238 fields
position 5: awerage: 167, 60% from 95 to 239 fields
position 6: awerage: 155, 60% from 82 to 228 fields
position 7: awerage: 144, 60% from 116 to 173 fields
position 8: awerage: 150, 60% from 123 to 177 fields
position 9: awerage: 159, 60% from 129 to 188 fields
position 10: awerage: 101, 60% from 79 to 122 fields
position 11: awerage: 98, 60% from to 116 fields
position 12: awerage: 105, 60% from to 129 pfields
position 13: awerage: 110, 60% from 60 to 160 fields
position 14: awerage: 84, 60% from 42 to 126 fields
position 15: awerage: 101, 60% from 54 to 149 fields

SO as you can c the best awerages are from possition 4 to position 9
but just to let you know those are awerages taken from milions of players so there will be times where you colonize position 4 and get like 40 fields , bu ultimately you should aim for as many fields as you can because later on in the game you're gonna need them , because later on in the game every colony is going to be better than your main planet in fctory levels and in lab levels because on the main planet bu the time you get to 300000 point you will run out of fields and then be forced to get terraformers which are expensive and time consuming so , aim in the begining for colonies larger than 200 fields .

not all planet's same size???
that sounds reasonable but I've got 3 planets on slots 7,8,11 and all 3 have 163 fields... Confused

Hi.

I was playing in uni9 (i got to 860k points) but then i quit. I was a big miner, so more fields means more fun. I had an avarage of about 180-200 fields (largest 306).

Now im plaing in uni37, and my main planet has 163 fields (standard), and ALL of my planets are on the 5th field. (4-6 have the highest avarage, but 5 gives the most spaces)
Sizes:
306
278
290
262
324
228

Under 200, i just delete the colony - long term it does not pay off. (about 30% of colony ships are lost, but hey - who needs planet with 60-100 fields).Terraformer - i had level 5 and it gives 25 fields, but takes 5, plus you need one free for another terra - so terra gives 4 fields for other mines.
228 - i wanted to delete it, i got it 2 days ago, ill think about it.
Even if i make metal/cry/deu/solar level 30... and robotics 10, shipyard 10, nani 3 (5 was my highest) i still have enough room for upgrade ^^ Why settle with less and then waste resourses on terra and solar sats (they can be so easily destroyed).

Big fields, big mines, large defense and daily harvest of colonys ... makes a good rank. Hide your fleet (no point in large fleet without MOON). That's that.

Closer to the "sun" less solar sats you need - in space 1 you get 35 energy with one sat, on 5 30 and so on and so on. But in field 15 you get the most of deuterium. So i go for lower number, so i dont need to spend that much on solar plants - but you need good defense so that no every "duchebag" comes and takes the sats DF. ^^
