What kind of server or system resources are needed to support a decent sized and fairly traffic intensive php bulletin board?
Is it something that will take a dedicated machine to handle or would a basic web server account be able to support it?
Basically I have 2 options and I'm wondering if the less hands on will work.
1) I have 100 megs on a web server that I rent. Will the operation take that much memory? How about Bandwidth restrictions?
2) I have a DSL and a network side system I can set up with a dedicated ip so bandwidth and storage will not be an issue but I'm not really keen on making my room a web server.
I'm pretty sure #2 will work but I'm looking for an option more like #1.

HD Storage space has nothing to do with it.. The total of all the scripts/images for phpbb is probably under 2 megs. What you need is the ability to run php scripts + a mySQL server.
As for bandwidth, you should ask Ish how much RP uses. I host the www.mokb.org website, and most the traffic is on the forums.. Looking at the past year, on AVG they use about 5 gigs per month.
