I have a simple question. I'm using the gradient tool, and I need to set the colors foreground to black, and the background to transparent. How do I set the background to transparent? dumb question, i know, but i couldent find it last night for 20 minutes so I gave up.

There's already a pre made gradient called "foreground to transparent." Just go into the gradient editor and click on it.
