ok here's the deal.
i'm running a dfi ut nf3 250gb motherboard, corsair xms twinx 1 gig set (2 512 modules) amd 64 3400 cpu, uhh some 40gig hd maxtor i believe but that shouldn't matter. oh and an evga geforce 6800gt.
my problem is this. i run 2 512 sticks, normally this works fine. no problems. i boot up everquest, i start to slideshow, literally 15-20fps. the second stick of ram gets literally cooking hot. first stick stays relatively cool. i take 1 stick out, log back in, everything is fine. fast frame rate. basically 1 stick fine, 2 sticks, it goes to crap.
i tested my ram in memtest, fine. i stole the 2 sticks from my brother's pc, tried them. same result, 2 sticks bad, 1 stick works. except with his it was worse because it has no heat spreaders. all 4 sticks memtest fine. all 4 sticks work fine by themselves in any of the 3 ram slots. all 4 sticks work fine in my brother's pc. 2 sticks in any configuration does not work.
ok so i tried just running normal things, encode to video, play videos etc. the second stick is always quite a bit hotter than the first stick. by first stick i mean the stick of ram in slot 1. i always run 1 stick in slot 1 unless i was testing, i did try every possible configuration. 1 stick in slot 2 1 in slot three , 1 stick in slot 1, 1 in slot 2, etc etc blahblah.
this seems to be the only thing that affects it. i can provide any information you want but it seems i know the problem. i have an idea of what is wrong but i want to hear what others say.

Unfortunatly for you we dont give a shit about your problem nor do we care if EQ run smooth or not on your damn PC, what we care is that you STOLE an innocent without permission.

my thread has officially been jacked. that was a little creative though.
anyway to update, wow runs fine, just reactivated to test it out. 2 sticks ram + wow = gaming goodness. eq hates me.

well it doesn't sound like just EQ is causing issues but other activities that access the RAM are causing issues as well (per your post)...
If you've completely swapped ram (you stated you did) and you still are seeing the same issues I'd look for a BIOS update that perhaps addresses the issue.

Major Reasons of Change:
1. Update Memtest v1.55.
2. Fix certain USB device cause system hang up.
3. Fix C&Q failure with certain memory modules.
4. Support New E0 Stepping Athlon64/Sempron.
5. Add Disable item within "Shutdown Temperature" option.
Hmmmm
More googling found that heat/memory was a big problem with the initial rev of the BIOS unless you're using one of the modded BIOS's out there ( you didn't say ) so I'd try the update unless you already have it ..
