so last night I got pretty high with a friend, and we ended up at the Nathan's game room. Anyway, on our way out we happened to see some guy doing dance dance revolution. Now I was first watchin his fight and was like "what is this a joke?" then looked up at the screen and realized he was doing incredibly complicated moves at a very high speed and getting ALL perfects.. like 78+ combos, shit like that.

It was like he was part asian or something, but really wasn't. Anyway, it was probably the coolest thing I've seen at an arcade in a while... I thought I'd only see that shit on some video going around the internet.

I then proceeded to wonder "what if he had applied himself to something useful? Imagine that."

Ive seen some people kick ass in that on the arcades. Just f*****g impressive.

As far as its usefulness, I know a number of people who have lost weight doing this including one guy who lost 40lbs. I would call that fairly useful...

Why did you tell us that you were high? Why didn't you just say that you were at an arcade and then tell us the rest of the story? Did you feel like you had to have a viable reason to be at the arcade because you were afraid that we would ridicule you had you gone without some sort of excuse?

Having fun, exercising and getting out of the house are not "doing something useful" in the Mind of the Majy. He says so twice! The reason he was there was because he was high, and he thought the asian was surely a joke.

Way to go, Majy!

I've seen people like that at the arcade in the Spokane mall. Usually have to go outside and rinse their clothes out when they're done.

I played this game for the first time Friday at my friends house. She has the pads and all and so me and my other buddy did it... god that is tiring, but damn good exercise.

walking on the 2nd floor towards the steps down when i started
hearing what i thought was construction noise.
when i got to the 1st floor the banging was very loud, then when
i got around the corner, i saw that it was 2 guys about 220+ each
playing ddr

is this all about hitting certain steps at the right time or is this something that can actually teach the white boy to bust a move?

i mean, is 6 months of one of these in your house going to make you vanilla ice or usher?

It is fairly easy on the lower levels. However, the higher levels are about memorization and speed. Those guys you see at the arcade do it every day for hours for weeks/months in a row.

It takes alot of practice and in the end I doubt it would really teach you to dance as your are essentially memorizing a set pattern to a song heh

No it's about hitting the stupid buttons, it's innane.

And Silvermouse - yes and no. I didn't feel a threat of ridicule, but did want to provide a reason for my presence at the arcade, for story telling purposes if anything.

And umm Occulis - I don't really understand what you're saying half the time. Good luck buddy.

Its more about hitting buttons. Whats oddier is Para Para Paradice, its kinda like DDR but you wave your hands between sensors. The thing is, there are clubs where people only dance like they would in the game. But people doing DDR dances without the pads just look retarted so its all about hitting the buttons.

Will people learn to shut up if they don't know what they're talking about?

The only memorization that goes on in DDR is people making dance routines for Freestyle tournaments. No one else ever memorizes any song, ever.

78 combo isn't good lol, that's a guy playing his 2nd day. I think my record is 1450ish for one of the 7 or 8 set demon road challenges.

game is dumb imo.

People doing it look akward and it doesn't really look like any kind of choiriographed dance that you would see in a play or on TV. It does look like someone could drop some extra pounds on it if they actually found the game fun though.

It is one of the most popular, fun, and challenging arcade games of all time.

The only people who try to discuss it's merit over the armchair are people who completely can't get over themselves. The game sure as hell isn't for everyone, but that has NOTHING to do with how good it is. 2d fighters are some of the best GAMES on the planet, a player can constantly get more skilled, there is incredible challenge, and huge adreneline rushes. Same thing goes for the better RTS/FPS games. Just becuase they don't float your boat has nothing to do with how good they are.

I don't think it's possible for a person like yourself to ever play a game like that. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's more like how if you picked a shaman in EQ you can't wear plate mail. Same thing.

It's not dancing you f**s. It's pushing buttons with your f*****g feet.

And you look like f**s doing it. Thank the Japanese, who have games for everything, even making sushi. What kind of shit is that?

I'm glad you all who do it, are enjoying it, but please don't call it dancing.
