For god's sake, every computer thing they did was so stupid and fake, even to my newb standards. During the "final battle" they were like flying inside the computer. Also, the bad guy was 45 and riding a skateboard, and his girlfried was Lorraine Brocco iirc.

It was portrayed that way to make it understandable to people who aren't "computer l33t"

Hackers is cool, but Tron is still the best hacker movie to date (and it's over 20 years old!).

My dad was rolling his eyes and he's 53 and has little to no computer skills. Maybe it would have been more believable if there had been any sort of operating system portrayed on the screens instead of swirling colors, etc.

He was asking if Windows could be like that.

I liked War Games better than Tron, but that's probably because the last time I saw Tron I was 7.

It was a fun movie. Seriously the details (that they used s****y macs... or the screens not having real computer stuff... or the other fictional stuff) don't matter all that much. The culture, the humor, the plot, it's all pretty good stuff and it makes for a movie i can watch many times without being bored.

You would need a DVD with a very good freeze frame mode.

I am in the command center all over the place. The best shot you will find is at the end when everyone is celebrating that the bad guy got toasted. But I'm also all over that set.

Hackers OWNED! BURN! BURN HIM! Strange Days, also had some serious ownage... Bladerunner, Classic Ownage... the last two aren't hacker movies... but fit the genre.

Hackers had less to do with what was on the screens of the Portable computers and s****y Mac's that they used, it is all about the feel and lifestyle of the movie. The main character was also based on a real kid that did some pretty serious hacking when he was young and got hammered by the government for it, if I remember correctly he shut down close to 4000 government systems or something to that effect... the kid was brilliant and a f****n' legend. We will probably never know the true amount of his hacking brilliance because he was only credited to that HUGE count of systems that he was charged with.

It seems that Keanu Reeves likes to play in "hacker" type movies.
