hmm, that last post sucked.

just eat a decent meal before and get your rest.

You will do fine if you keep a constant pace and stick to it, but gradually (very gradually) increasing your speed if you feel you can do better. Just don't burn out in fist part, its not worth it at all.

Please don't follow any of this. Please don't ask questions like this on Realpoor either. There are much better forums. Just use Google for crying out loud.

Are you going to ask for stock and finance information here next? Maybe whether or not to keep the baby and get married?

If you have a question about EQ, video games, goatse.cx, or suitcase girl. Then this is the place. This is not the place for this.

Pasta is good, make sure you absolutely stuff yourself the night before, but if you've tried this before and if it caused any bowel problems stay away from it. Olympic runners often bring their own food to other countries, because you can eat a meal and you'll know it's bad the next day when you feel awful and your time is 30 seconds slower. I used to do 5k's, but I never really got into it, it was more of my dad forcing me to thing. Plus it's bs to not compete against other girls when your testosterone is lower than theirs and wrong locker room for having breast growth if you know what I mean.

Start to carbo load 2+ days in advance. Although, seeing as it is Friday, I hope you got a head start.

Everyone says this, but drink water. When you go into the kitchen drink water. When you wake up drink water. When you eat anything, drink water. WATER, WATER, WATER! You can't just drink a ton of water a day before and expect to be hydrated. Your body will just flush out a good portion of the extra water with waste and you will just cramp up wondering why you are dying. Start as far ahead as you can so your cells are saturated and so your body can adjust accordingly.

Break your performance down mentally. It's 26 miles, if I remember correctly. I have done only 1 marathon and 3 half marathons, aside from 4 years of track and cross country. Don't think of it in its entirety.
- You only need to get half way (13 miles) and you are making your way back. Every inch past that mark means you have, under your own will, made it that much closer to the finish. So, just hit the half way mark. The trick to hitting the half way mark is hitting the half way mark to the half way mark, and then you are already making your way past half way to that point. Anyway, the mental breaking down of the course follows the same repetitive line of thinking. (Have a mental plan, even if you wont follow it)

You feel better once you puke. ( if )
I recommend something like oatmeal for breakfast.

I wish I would have cared more when I ran competitively. I only really tried for about 1 year, and then just gave enough to get by.

RUN THROUGH THE WALL! You will get a cramp and get tired, but if you count your steps and just keep track of every set of 100 steps you take, your mind will help you ignore and block the pain. It naturally goes away as well.

If anyone hands you candy bars, you know they don't much about very long distance running as an amateur recreational activity.

Good luck, keep your head up, and don't go out fast unless you mean it.

Edit: I am not an authority figure. I feel very strongly for the advice I gave. From personal experience, the information I gave you will give you leaps and bounds more of an advantage over the next warm body in the race.

23:54 was my best, I think I'll start running again after my feet get taken care of and once my weight is high enough that I won't have to worry about losing weight. Make sure your clothing is light, don't wear anything chaffing and make sure you have support down there, I've been told running long distances in commando can be painful. I don't know how serious you take your running, but running shoes make a huge difference over tennis shoes or whatever. Depending on your price range and foot size can probably get some shoes that weigh 17 ounces maybe? I don't remember the ballpark weights, it has been too long :\ goodluck w/ the run.
edit: make sure you stay loose all the way up untill the start, it takes longer to gear up if you're not warm at the start and obviously pulls are nasty especially w/ long runs, I'm sure you know this but just saying it anyways

Also, yea... make sure to poop within a reasonable time frame before the race. LOL, man do I have a funny story about one cross country meet. No, I was not the one with green nutty shit dribbling all over my thighs.

My times were nothing special. Of course, all the courses in my bay area seemed like they were more up hill than down. 'Agony Hill'... what a terrible portion of our course. I never broke 19 minutes for 5k. Des broke 18 minutes once, by 1 second, the b*****d. I had my moments.

Don't eat anything the night before that you are not willing to have weight you down in your gut. Try and get it in you earlier in the day ( the day before ) so your body has enough time to get the last bit of waste out of your body. You can eat bananas and fruit and something else later in the night. Basically, if you do eat a heavy dinner Thursday, see about getting it in a few hours earlier than normal, unless you are regular enough to get rid of it in the morning.

Yes, she was hence forth known as Diarrhea Ass. It seemed so fitting, and everyone agreed.

Edit: haha. Everyone was saying that's mud. I was like, "Um no! How did it get into and up her shorts?"

Yes, she came in 3rd place. It was a very high ranking devision race too I believe. I personally would have just disapeared out in the woods and not finished. Oh man, they must have hosed her off.

I don't know if it's possible for me to get under 20 minutes, even if my feet get taken care of and I get up to a healthy weight. I just don't have the power in my thighs and probably never will. I like the way I zone out because it's just too much for my body and I can't think a single thought or worry about anything but finishing the race. It's hard to maintain running, somedays you just don't have the energy and it's easy to break the routine and hard to get back into it.
