I don't get whats the deal with the merchant. how much do you get by trading?

Trading can be a hoby if you wonna call it that , at one point i became a trader where i built 20000 espionage probes and i was able to transport large amounts of resources in a wery short period of time and there was alot of people that neded some resources fast like deuterium to attack somebody because they thin the player is ofline so then you set up a deal where you gain something and do it for the person. But trading in general is just a good way of geting rid of extra reasources for example if you have 300000 deuterium and there's nothing you can do with it then you asc your aliance members if they need any and if there is anyone who does then you tade them for metal and crystal let's say for every 1 deuterium you get 3 metal or 2 crystal or 1.5 metal and 1 crystal , hope that explains it
