You rely on one piece of software from one manufacturer to copy DVDs?

ya , i know . i use shrink 3 anyways .

i think this only applys to people who sell the software and not freeware anyways ..... You still have the right to make copies . People just can't sell software that bypass's the encryption.

Guess I was just surprised that the court ruled against them

Well I knew the bottom would fall out on X-Copy eventually. We were selling at least twice as many copies of that as we were any other program (across all categories), and if the history of digital piracy has taught us anything, it's that convenience has a way of getting things banned.

I love how they say "loses".

People have been copying video tapes for 20 years. They never had that revenue to begin with so they didn't lose anything.

DVD burners weren't widespread for a long time, even now they're still not that common. During that long period of time when DVD burning was VERY uncommon they probably made quite a bit of profit, and now they're losing it because more people own DVD writers.

That's true about dvds, but this quote mentions "analog videotapes".

i used to buy DVD's all the time . Now i just use netflix and burn them. so for the cost of one DVD i get unlimted DVD's delivered right to my house and make a copy for less than a buck.

I think i am the type of people they are worried about

well when they stop charging 20 bucks per movie people may be more inclined to buy them.

you should be able to own a movie for the price it costs to rent it...about half the price of a movie ticket.

Heh, whoops.

Well even if they were losing it before, I'm pretty sure it's a lot more than 3 billion now cause I don't know anyone who still uses video tapes. As of last year we don't even have a VCR in our house...

why would anyone ever rent one then ? owning it should be half the cost of seeing it once at the theater ?

I agree that they should be cheaper . like $11.99 - $13.99 but you are asking for them to go a bit to low .
