I was using Knoppix or Ubuntuu for things, but now I shall use this, purely for the XGL.

I tried to install XGL on my debian machine, that was bad Sad Hopefully soon I will get it.

I trashed Fedora on my work PC and installed Ubuntu. It's pretty nice so far, though I still hate packages.

Unless you're viewing pictures, everything in a GUI is frivolous to me. Might as well go all the way and have fleshy, bouncy window borders.

I tried out the live CD- it didnt work on my laptop (i wouldnt have expected it to), but on a desktop w/ a much nicer card (nvidia) it was a lot of fun- almost everything bounces, and sitting there making open terminals dance is a good 5 mins of entertainment. Plus you can put stuff half on one workspace and half on another, which is pretty cool.

Did you find any real compelling use for any of the stuff? Multiple, transparent movie windows is great if you have no attention span, I guess. Other than that, what good is any of this? I'm curious.

nope, other than fun to play with and entertaining the only useful thing was putting an application on 2 workspaces at a time. So its mostly aesetic value- oddly enough, there was one other girl there and we both thought it was awesome and coool and fun, while the guys were more on the lines of "whats the point?" "is it efficient? its probably bloatware" etc etc... pssshhh engineers... Soooo, i guess you could also say it impresses girls Smile to some extent... sorta...
