|
|
|
My g/f has this pimp jeep that "was" her daughters, and is now my g/f's...aka I am the only 1 allowed to drive it when I am around, because I like it so much.
Anyways, they had this lift kit put on it, and have 255 diameter tires on it, instead of 225 stock size, so the speedometer is fuct, and I wanna fix that.
Is that somethin I can do myself, or does it require nasa to have the thing for a month or two to fix?

It's only going to be off by about 2-3 mph anyway, and it will be reading faster than you're actually going, so you'll be less likely to get tickets. I'd just leave it

Really? It shouldn't be, unless you changed the aspect ratio or wheel diameter too.
I don't know what she has, but assuming something like 225/75R15 to 255/75R15, the outside circumference goes from pi*(2*.75*225/24.7 + 15) to pi*(2*.75*255/24.7 + 15), or 90 inches to 95.7 inches. So at 55 mph the first tire would read 55; the second would read 51.7.
So I was wrong, they'd read slower than you're really going - better change it lol.

This retard kid in my high school came in one day with "low profile" tires on his car but kept the standard rims. I told him he made his car slower by doing that and he didn't believe me. I tried explaining all the shit about RPMs and circumference and diameter and he thought I was lying. His name was Bret and when we were in 3rd grade he shat in the garbage can in the classroom.

I got low profile tires on my last car; which turned out to be sort of a bad choice. They looked cool, and gave me the ability to take highway entrance ramps a bit faster without the tires squealing, but performance-wise that's about the only difference I could see, and realistically how often do you need to go around an entrance ramp at 60 mph anyway. But it really hurt the performance in snow - I wasn't aware of it, but low profile tires are almost completely useless in snow, even if the tire is nominally "all season". I ended up having to buy snow tires and new rims.

Weak, untill you've driven through snow on Z-rated Summer tires you don't know what bad snow handling is. I'd welcome all-seasons over these for sure.

ever ridden a bike? 120mph is nothing, especially on ramps. its not even squiddy. but im sure everyone here knows everything there is to know and i shouldn't even make a comment.

roll down your window and cup your hand... if the wind feels harder or faster then you are going faster.
