Hasn't happened in years, but now I get to reformat since this shit is so f****d.
any ideas other than the obvious reformat?

lol I know right...how can anyone help you if we don't know what the problem is. My guess is spyware or something.
I've had to reformat 3 times in the last 6 months because of that crap.
If you're on a network just gather everything you wanna keep in 1 file and send it over to another comp and reformat. The whole proces should only put you back afew hours.

Yea tell us whats wrong and perhaps we can save you from the pain and agony of having to format. Hell I managed to figure out a blue screen of death problem.. took me 3 months lol but now the boxen is running nicely =)

Haven't had one piece of spyware that you KNOW OF. Everyone gets spyware at one point or another, we just use programs to find and erase them.

Aim boots up by itself, (uninstalled now)(edit: with the settings for auto-connect off)
Task manager dosn't remain open for longer than 2 seconds
norton didn't pick anything up
Ad-aware didn't pick anythign up
everything was working fine until last nigth I clicked a link and it reloaded the page (on realpoor.com, was clicking post reply and got refresh) which happened about 4 or 5 times until i closed the navigator and tried again.

Tura's right though, use a network comp or extra HDD to save important stuff.

Theres a thing called "Hi-jack This" out right now that finds alot of things ad-aware, spybot, MSspyware, and mcafee missed on my comp. Just be careful that you know what you're doing because using this thing to cure your PC from spyware/viruses is like drinking bleach to pass a drug test.
It can delete things like games or non-harmful programs if you don't review the list it puts up very thoroughly. Just scroll through it carefully and look for your problem.

ohh yeah, forgot to add that my printer has been turning itself on too, as well as printint out essays by people I've never heard of, but in classes I've taken.
WTF.

For future,
1. Don't use Internet Explorer, use Opera or Firefox.
2. Get a free Zone alarm version off their site.
3. Norton2005
4. Use Microsoft's anti-spyware. It's free and actually works tons better than all the adaware-hijackthis crap.
when i have all this running(i have zonealarm pro, not free version), nothing has gotten into my computer for 4-5 months so far.
