actually, you can salvage it. it will never work "perfect" again, mind you, but you can make it work very very well.
You need to put it in the oven. put it on a towel (as so it doesn't melt) and cook it for ~2 hours at 350 degrees. this will soften the case a bit, so having it on the towel will prevent external damage. This will also evaporate any water that's inside of the camera. just make sure you first: emptied it of the battery and memory card.
and opened up every possible port/plug it has. then bake away, and after two hours, let it sit quite a while till it cools down (internally and externally). after about an hour, you can fool with it.
bam, working camera.

I just got an Optio S4 - it's a nice little camera, but I do tend to forget it in my pocket pretty often.
Getting the water out is a minor problem - heat or vacuum could do that. It's what was dissolved in the water that will stay behind - dirt, minerals, soap, fabric softener - that will s***w it up. I'd bet it'll never work well. Say it takes pictures of "auras" or something and sell it on ebay.

Well, the camera was ruined, so I thought what the hell and tried Xarps idea. At 350, in 20 minutes most of the exterior melted, and buttons started falling off. I took it out, and its been cooling for 10 minutes.

...worked for my dad's Cannon when he dropped it in a lake and it took us a little bit to find it =/
EDIT: BTW, I'm sorry that your camera was ruined. It was not my intention for this to happen, as I honestly tried to help out using a method that had worked for me in the past.
Is there any form of warranty for the camera? possibly you could claim that it was left out in the sun or something and... what can the company say to that? I mean really?

First of all, I'm a guy.
Well, the piece of shit went through the wash, and then the dryer, then I found it. Rofl.
Well, I sent it to the company with this big sappy letter about how I wrecked it on a military training mission in Germany. (I did go to Germany, so thats all tru)
They sent it back saying, "We de-assembled ur camera and it has extreme internal damage, so we cant do anything." So then it sat on my desk for about a week. All in all, it was about 2 or 3 weeks since it got washed.
Then I tried Xarps idea, cuz its obviously not gonna drip dry that well.

Also, after about 10 minutes in the oven, the little LCD screen on the back, shrivled up like a rason. Was kinda funny.
Btw, no hard feelings xarp.
