heres the thing.. the monitor now and again does this high pitch squeel from hell.. its not loud.. kinda reminds me of a dog whistle, makes my ears want to bleed for the high pitch of it though.. i have to turn the screen off when it does that.
also certain games wont play on my comp now and i think (pretty sure) its because of the monitor setting. like zuma deluxe or magic inlay.. i get *out of range*.
im a newb with this so im askin for help, all i can tell ya is my current frequency is HF: 86.5kHz VF: 85Hz
anyone able to help me out here?

Tamrissa out of range means your video cards refresh and or resolution is set too high and the monitor just wont display it in order to keep from damaging it...try starting in safe mode

If you can do it...find out how to start at a refresh of 60 khz and work it up from there...sounds like your computer is set to a higher resolution than your monitor can display
also click the desktop/properties/settings and lower your resolution to minimum and work up from there...assuming you have another monitor you can hook up to see how to do that =P

What he said.
It sounds like you set your Refresh/Reso to high. My guess would be Refresh. I have only seen to high of a reso do that in very rare occasions. Refresh rate being to high though WILL do this every time.

tilu.. sorry hun.
jc, ya that is the problem hehe what i need to know is how to fix it! i dont know how.
the HF: should be in the 30 to 70 kHz range and VF: 50Hz to 16 Hz
but its currently running at 86.5 kHz 85Hz.
what i need help with is how to actually adjust/fix it to be within the above range.

On winxp .. right click on the desktop, select properties, then select settings and then the advanced button and then the monitor tab and set the refresh to be within spec, the horizontal will auto adjust to your vert refresh...

Go here ... This is where the real geeks hang out . Not Genmay.
http://arstechnica.com/index.ars
then go to the open forum.
As far as changing resolution and keeping it... Id try to set the new resolution with my video cards software.

those out of range numbers pertain to refresh and resolution. the games you're opening were last played on a 19" or above monitor most likely, so are set to run at 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 (if you had a really good 19, or a 21) so you need to find a way to change the reso the games start up in from outside them, or just reinstall the games as the default reso will prolly be 800x600 or lower.
You can have the Reso/refresh set as low as it can go for windows (like the other guys have been tellin you to do) but that won't help for games that just set it to something higher when they boot up.
if you run the games by shortcut, try going to the properties of the shortcut and where it says target which will be something like
*** "c:\games\game folder\gamename.exe" ***
add in a -windowed after the last " so it looks like this
*** "c:\games\gamefolder\gamename.exe" -windowed ***
(btw, don't type in the ***, used that since the " is part of what you actualy have up there)
hope this helps
