Never had it before tonight.
Im working graveyard shift and I stole the obligatory frozen lunch.. the only choices were "Cheesy Rice Casserole" from Lean Cuisine or "Chicken Pot Pie" from Marie Callender's.
It's delicious.
These people need to start having a LITTLE BIT of f*****g variety when they shop... f*****g christ.. how inconsiderate they feed the rest of us boring food...

Chicken pot pie can be pretty good if you get a good brand. There's a huge difference between the bad ones and the good ones. I can't remember the kind I get, since I don't eat it much, but it's very fresh tasting, not all flour and fat.

I like to call it chicken pot dry.
I'm not a fan of pie crust at all, and amazingly the gravy and stuff does nothing to give it any flavor or moisture.

I've tried all sorts of chicken pot pie (I love chicken) and none of 'em are moist enough for me. I just don't like pie crust one iota.
Now shepherd's pie... that's another story. I love this stuff. It's basically beef, gravy, mashed potatoes, and cheese all mixed together with NO pie crust (if you've never had it before). Unfortunately, it's impossible to find anywhere.

so true... i cant stand that stuff, it's too bland and always either way too hot or cold in the middle.

I never thought about it, but Jesus was not only the shepherd, but he was also the Lamb of God, wasn't he? That's cool thought I guess; I like lamb even better than chicken.

Its an Irish thing. Every Irish gin mill in NY serves it. Its actually supposed to me layered, meat, veggies and gravy one layer, mashed on top then finished off baked for a slighty brown crust.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the veggies.
The only places near Detroit that I know serve it are the Royal Oak Brewery and then there's a pub in Ann Arbor. Both over 30 minutes away. Hooligan's (awesome kickass Irish pub) had it too, but they closed down four years ago.
I want it so bad, I just know in a few weeks I'm gonna break down and make a little road trip for it.

I went to Meijer's for lunch today. I got half a chicken (Rotisserie), salad, and a pop for about 6.50
Tons of food and it was really cheap.

The key here, darlings, is HOMEMADE
Want recipes? PM me.
As to the crust on pot pies, I have found that the refrigerated crust from Pillsbury <the box contains two dough circles big enough to be the top and bottom of a pie> works out great AND is flaky and tender.
Yes, rolling the dough is great but it cuts down tremendously on the time factor if you use the dairy case cheat.

Kells in downtown Seattle has a pretty gnarly sheapards pie if you ever get the chance.
They also have a kick ass house band. They play like irish jig stuff with definate punk influences.

Marie Callendar's is by far the best frozen dinner you can buy. I actually buy those things because I like em sometimes. The pot pies are awesome. Chicken is good but I prefer Turkey. I don't eat em like a pie though, I stir the crust into the filling and it's kinda like stew. Put some Tabasco on it. I think I know what I'm having for dinner tonight :p.

Marie Calenders TV dinners are the own. The mac and cheese is like semi sweet which is different but very good. Their pasta shit is good too.

That was the single most offensive thing ever to my nose. I didn't care that it was only 14 degrees outside... I opened every damn window we had and emptied an entire bottle of Glade to clear that crap out.
Just awful. Smelly feet X 1000
Oh, and I lit all our candles too!

Nice, just noticed the part where you said you stole the obligatory frozen dinner
I was working 3 jobs at one point - one full time and two contract. One contract was at a startup, and I'd get there any time between 7 and 11 pm. The guys there had made a point of the fact that they always bought dinner, and there was always snacks and soda in the frig etc.
So we were sitting around the other day remeniscing about the good old days, and one person said "remember how they always got really good free dinners every night", and I said "yeah, and even when I got there too late for dinner, the freezer was always well stocked with frozen dinners". And somebody said "No it wasn't". And another guy looks at me and goes "You b*****d! That was YOU eating all my frozen entrees? Those were my lunches".
Heh, at least I didn't know I was stealing them

When I was a security guard/starving college student leftover pizza from department parties and just about anything that had been in the refrigerator for more than a couple days was fair game. The funny thing was when stuff disappeared people *always* blamed the janitors. Later on there was some real stuff (not just lunches) stolen on the graveyard shift and I'm 99% sure it was by the security guards, but in the discussions everyone assumed it was the janitors. My boss never even considered that it might be one of the guards stealing stuff. People that left candy jars and such out on their desk overnight would come back to find them cleaned out and go to the security desk to report their candy getting eaten when they were most likely talking to the guy that ate it hehe.

Janitors do steal shit, i once stayed the night in our organization's room on campus, i was studying all night and had permission to sleep in the room. Our group sells pop + candy during the day for extra funds. So im sleeping in this room, and i locked it so nobody would know i was in there all night. The janitor opened the door at like 3am and went into the fridge helping himself to some goodies... i dont think he even saw me on the couch in the back of the room.
