Heh, I started my new book in the shower this morning. I was pretty psyched to read it, since it was the sequel to A Conspiracy of Paper, which was my favorite book of the last year or so. So I read a few chapters while driving to work, then read under the trees in the parking lot and until I noticed the caf was in danger of closing for lunch, went in and bought lunch, sat at my desk and ate it, then went back outside and finished the book.
I'm never quite sure if I have have no will power at all, or so much willpower that I force myself to do what's best for me as long as there's not an overpowering reason not to. I guess it's a fine line

yes, your life is rife with potentially dangerous or unusual reading spots.

yeah, I guess i've mentioned reading in the shower and driving before. I find it takes me at least 10 minutes under hot water to basically wake up, and as long as all I'm doing is standing there facing away from the water, I might as well read until I'm awake enough to wash.
Driving, I don't know, all I can say is that I have some really, really cautious friends, and they usually say things like "I don't know how you do it, but you drive better at 90 mph while reading a book than anyone else I know when they're trying their hardest". The less charitable say "I can't explain it, but if you aren't dead by now, you must be doing something right"
It's funny, I actually started reading as a way to cut down on traffic tickets. I couldn't drive close to the speed limit because it was too boring, and I felt like I was less safe because my mind would wander. So I took up reading because it made it challenging enough to be interesting again, and so I'd have to work harder to pay attention. But then I found out it really wasn't that hard when you get the hang of it.
Anyway, the book owns, if you like historical fiction. Great character, witty dialogue.

I don't get why it's hard to understand why a book doesn't get wet in the shower. You turn on the shower, wait till it's warm, walk in, and stand there reading with your back to the water. It just doesn't get wet, as long as you don't absent-mindedly turn around or something. Maybe a little condensation from steam, but that's it; the pages might curl slightly, but it doesn't get soaked or anything. It takes me like 20 minutes to shower, 10-15 minutes is just standing there waking up; I might as well read.
And I probably don't drive better when I'm reading, but still well enough. It occurs to me that it was a little stupid to finish the book though, because now I have nothing to read on the way home

If you had an accident, would you tell the cop making the report you were reading?

Not if I thought there was a chance it would be pinned on me when it wasn't actually my fault; I wouldn't want to give them any extra ammunition. If it was my fault, I'd just say it was my fault and leave it at that.
I don't really think it's dangerous though. People drive with me sometimes when I read, and they'll always say that I'm reacting as quick or quicker than they would if they were driving. Your peripheral vision is very sensitive to movement - the slightest change of a brake light, or tiny shift of one or two cars in front of me relative to me or each other, or movement of a car in the lane alongside, and I've got full attention on it. But I never let myself be distracted for even the slightest fraction of a second - it's like my mind is split into two pieces - one piece is reading, one's thinking about where the other cars are and where I'm going to move if I have to in a hurry. Most people would just say "b******t" of course, but I know my capabilities pretty well. If it's not a good day for it, for whatever reason, I just don't do it.
