Well i know how to read music, played the trumpet for almost 10 years now and can transpose pretty well, know a few chords for the guitar but was wondering if anyone knows a good line of books for the bass guitar?

DUnno about books. Ive been playing the bass for about 7 years now and never used a book, even though i study at the conservatory at the moment.

Just listen to music and try to play songs you like, start off easy.

I found this though, quickly looked through it and it looks reasonable.

Good luck and if you have any questions whatsoever dont hesitate to send me a PM

Play and get a vibe going by ear.

Then go here and order the bass book.

Bass Grimoire

The Guitar Grimoire

I bought the Guitar Grimoire book ("THE GUITARIST'S BIBLE") years ago. Good reading and study...but all my walls were covered with scales and chords, when I was younger, for study.

Books suck. Kill books.

Practice sight reading scales and modes and sounding out the notes (and saying them) as you go... this will make you super cool at knowing the fret board.

Also, like Zwad said, listen to the songs you like, and try to play them... maybe start off by looking at tabs and eventually start doing it by ear. Ear training is they key to really knowing what you're doing.

Lastly, take some time out in your practice regimen to teach yourself some slap bass, 'cause it's cool, and you'd be cool if you learned it. Being cool is the key to being cool.

Good luck!

Do this when mom and dad aren't home. The jewish princess forgot this important rule, one he always follows.

I know books got me into a crappy rut of trying to memorize things, and I know a lot of other people this has happened to =/ So I wouldn't recommend them. If anything by a DVD so you can at least see what they're doing and try to make some sense out of it visually.

P.S. I have the Guitar Grimoire. It sucks IMO.

Just learn some songs you like. You'll do what works for you from there, everyone has their own learning style.
