Hey guys... do you guys know of a service kind of like myspace that's a little more kid-friendly? I have a little sister whose friends all have myspace but I'm a little more controlling about what she has access to on the internet, and as much fun as myspace is, I don't personally think it's overwhelmingly kid friendly. Maybe Friendster? I noticed it's a lot more subdued and not nearly as frenetic as myspace.
If you think of one let me know. Hopefully it's not one that sucks too much. I don't think I'd go so far as to go for something like MyChristianGoodyTwoShoesSpace.com. They'd corrupt her as much as any other site could.

Because maybe her friends' parents don't give a shit what their kids sign up for, I don't know. I just know if my mom ever knew of myspace, she wouldn't go for it at all. I don't want to come off as a total nazi, but at the same time I do want her to have something to at least talk about.. and who knows maybe some of her little friends also have friendster accts.

Personally I'd recommend against signing up for "kid-friendly" profile sites... chances are they attract weird people much more so than myspace.

I use Xanga, have since like 7th grade off and on, do myspace and livejournal off and on also, there is some wierd shit on them, but only if you are looking for it, I doubt she would, then again maybe, I doubt any harm would come from it. Pretty sure you could tell if she was visiting wierd shit if you viewed her stuff.
Eh, I don't know of any kiddy myspace style stuff though.

Message board: community where people gather to discuss topics, usually based on a central theme. Opinions are shared, views are swapped, typically people leave with a better understanding of the topic discussed, be it the Triangle offense or goatse.cx

Sure, there are some people who try to turn a message board into a blog (Galdaria), but blogs are never intended to be a place where opinions are swapped, only where the bloggers opinions are forced down your throat, and they don't have to deal with your rebuttal.

I guess I don't see the inherent difference between a messageboard and a blog.
Messageboard : a group of people who come to the site under the impression they'll be swapping ideas and discussing topics but inevitably end up doing nothing more than just stating their own opinions, sometimes multiple times, and talk about how much better they are then the person whose post they're responding to.
