is there any way to have the windows update stop popping up?

last time I did the windows service pack I had to do a data recovery on my whole computer, so i'm not taking the chance at doing it again, but i'm sick of the updater bugging me. Is there anyway to take it off?

right click on my computer, select automatic update and then tick turn off automatic updates then click apply and ok...

s***w that, they come out with a new update every 5 minutes, i just turn off the auto update from my computer like gotissues does.
