over 2000 americans died in 9/11 right ? well bush has so far killed 1000 americans by sending them into harms way for a war that turned out to be for the wrong reasons . the main reason this whole war started was because of WMD and now know there are NONE. so in essence bush made us fight a war for no reason or atleast the reason he made us fight it turned out to be WRONG !
this was all 100% preventable. 9/11 was not really preventable. So bush made the "choice" to put americans in harms way and let them be killed, over 1000 of them. thats without thinking about the untold 1000s of iraqi familie members he has slaughtered.
so in the sence that this all could have been prevented but bush choose to do it anyways and turned out to be wrong in his actions when he killed 1000 of us . is this more tragic than 9/11 ?

Don't forget the 8,000 Americans blinded, made deaf, and otherwise maimed and crippled in combat. 1,000 dead isn't the only cost.
You can argue that it's a cost we have to pay to prevent further casualties, although I don't really buy that, except in the most nebulous "look how tough we are so don't f**k with us" sense.

(US casualities - excludes allies, civilians, etc)
300,000 died in WWII.
55,000 died in Korea.
109,000 died in Vietnam.
300 died in Persian Gulf War.
2800 died on 9/11.
136 have died in Afghanistan.
I did not pull up any figures for Kosovo or Somalia. The question to ask is has the political bickering between parties and media constantly showing "what is bad" promoted an environment to bring about more casualities? Such things have happened in the past.

Starting the war was never the problem although it can be rightfully questioned. The problem was always how to deal with the aftermath which Bush & Co. incorrectly planned and still has no concrete solution to. And Conqueso, remember it's not only the casualities, but also the money that the American people will be spending for generations to come to pay for this war and also the billions that will be spent for rebuilding the infrastructure of Iraq. Even in terms of using historical dollars, this will be easily the most expensive war ever fought.

Eh, I was putting the casualities in perspective with other wars. Too many people think of war as a video game - quick and easy. Also, people should not expect all wars to be like the Persian Gulf War. What Bush Senior and Cheney pulled off back then in terms of cost was extraordinairy.
Yea, I havent dug to much into the cost figures. From several stories, I know the 200 billion that Kerry is throwing around is bs. I also know that some of the countries, including Japan, are providing financial backing. When Cheney mentioned last night that there will be an increase in financial backing from other countries, it was something I had not heard about. It will take a day or so before people start really chopping into the debate. Hmm, maybe I'll dig into this a bit. I'm a bit curious about who is providing money.
