they dropped the only rock station in the south florida market... now i'm f*****g stuck listening to assloads of SHIT on those other stations

Fans of WZTA FM 94.9 got a rude awakening this morning -- their progressive rock station is broadcasting Air America's news and sports talk.

Radio industry sources said that the station, owned by Clear Channel Communications, is preparing to switch to a Spanish-language format. Zeta's on-air personnel have been laid off. The station's website also went blank, displaying only a message ``this site is experiencing technical difficulties.''

Clear Channel executives in Miramar, San Antonio and New York, did not return The Herald's phone calls Friday morning.

Clear Channel, the nation's largest radio broadcaster, announced last September that it would aggressively seek entree into the hot Spanish-language radio market by converting about two dozen stations across the country to español.

Ten days ago, it flipped Orlando station WEBG-FM 100.3 to a Spanish pop format to be called Rumba 100.3.

Clear Channel owns seven stations in the South Florida market. Zeta's ratings had been lagging for some time.

Holy shit, I thought they were just playing some different music for this weekend as I remember them playing some spanish bands once in a while. Atleast the morning guys moved to another station before this crap happened.

http://www.x96.com

They have online broadcasting so all of you b*****s can listen.

They're doing what they call a "Storage Shed Weekend" where they play a bunch of shit that hasn't been played much recently, but their normal stuff is good too.

If you'd stop listening to CC stations this wouldn't happen.

Ya know....one of the f***s that Howard had a problem with back in the day worked for those Clear Channel f***s here in my area. My best friend and I would routinely call him and shout "Boba Bouey" at him then hang up. He got p****d and ranted about it on the air once. We won.

Apparently this is a new trend for ClearChannel. The only rock station in the Bay Area (KSJO) was switched to a Spanish format a couple months ago as well.

So let me get this straight... you just NOW started to hate Clearchannel!?!

Detroit radio is destroyed because of CC, which is a tremendous shame. It seems as if our musical heritage now begins and ends with Eminem. If I didn't have a CD player in my car, I'd probably go insane. (well, actually I'd just install one... but you get the idea Razz)

This doesn't even make sense. We're supposed to enslave Mexicans for cheap labor, not cater to them.

Silly execs.

Amazingly we have a CC station here in UT that doesn't suck. They don't have DJ's just a voice that does their station ID and another that tells you the name of the song and artist. They have recordings of people in the valley who call in and say shit too. Their commercial breaks are short and their music selection is decent. It's nice just cause there's more music to hear and less b******t.

On that note, I still prefer the station I posted above. They have been a favorite for oh so long, somewhere around 10 yrs now. Their morning show is pretty good too.

There's a CC station here that claims they're a '70s, 80s, and today station,' but I think my LP collection (which obviously hasn't grown in two decades) is larger than their library. Sad!

KSJO doesn't even actually exist anymore. They changed the format and call letters.

It gets worse actually. I read about it in the paper...they gave no warning at all. The last song they played was 'I'm on a Mexican Radio' then they changed to Spanish programming.
