so incase anyone is curious there is a program called ice cold reloaded. its a small exe that basically brute forces MSN with incorrect passwords on your passport. it can lock a hotmail + passport making it impossible to not only get to msn.com but get your email or sign into messenger.
my account has been locked for 3 days now, and MSN refuses to do anything. what a joke.

i've had plenty, my account on hotmail is great though because its my first+last name and i've had it for about 8 years now. i keep it because old old friends i used to work with have it and i have no way to get ahold of them.
its just annoying and i felt like posting about it incase someone knew a way around it.

You this could be done for any authentication right. It's not really an MSN deal. I will say that if you choose a strong password they wont be able to get it. Try working with MSN to figure who/why and you should get your account back. Esp. if you are a long standing member.

no heres the catch....
msn locks the passport after 3 failed password attempts. you can not access it until a 30 minute time out period. so someone created a brute force program that uses 1 password thats incorrect over and over constantly pounding the login server to keep the account locked as long as they are running the program.
think of it as using brute force on a system that after 3 failed attempts locks the user out. thats what they are doing, and they run the program all day and night so i can not access my hotmail or messenger.

Did you use hotmail through Outlook Express or some similar program, if so it may have saved your contact info. Just so you don't lose those.

no i use trillian and it saves contact lists. my problem is just that i can't even check my hotmail, and i bought some shit on ebay and i have to provide the seller with another email address now, because i can't get into hotmail. just a pain in the ass.
