The 190 employes of the first wal-mart that got syndicated got a big news today while they where negociating a convention contract ...

The leaders of wal-mart told the bosses of the store that it wasnt necessary to make a contract since the store will close it's door soon.

Looks like Wal-Mart really dont want any of their stores to be syndicated...fine now how long before we tell Wal-mart to close all their stores in canada and to go back where they belong?

haha Canadian citizens, say good bye to a wide assortment of products at the lowest prices possible, and spending more money than you have to on the basics of life

The average lower income Canadian citizen is hte one who suffers you dumb socialist, forced to pay more money for goods than the free market would ordinarily dictate.

You do realize that for your average lower end worker, the money you save buying at Wal Mart versus smaller "mom and pop" type stores could mean the difference between buying new clothes for your children, or wearing old ones with holes in them. A savings of 25-50 dollars a week means a lot at the bottom of the wage scale.

SO whats the moral of the story?
Let Big business destroy the American dream so all the mom and pops can shut down shop and go to work for an omni corporation that now dominates the market in a near monopoly?
Im so mad about this I could hurl the speaker system I bought ridiculously cheap at Wal-mart RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW

I actually have found Smiths/Kroger to be cheaper than Walmart for groceries overall. Plus I don't have to deal with 900 mexicans and their weekly trip to Walmart

Who agrees with this statement: Given enough success and enough time, all companies will eventually become as large as possible.

I don't understand the hate for Wal-Mart. If everyone in the US shopped at Mom-and-Pop, eventually Mom and Pop would be the same size as Wal-mart. It's the natural progression of success: Grow until you have no real competition. Then grow some more.

I agree, every business (assuming it's based on something that doesn't suck, I mean you couldn't really have a business selling chocolate covered brussel sprouts and expect it to be successful) has the opprotunity to succeed to the same level as any other business out there.

That is the paradox that is walmart. People can't seem to agree whether it is the force of evil driving small businesses into poverty, or the force of good improving the lives of poor people everywhere with their low prices.

Either way, if you buy clothes there they will fall apart, but if you have a shopping list that reads "Gallon of milk, oil change for the car, underwear, tampax, shotgun shells, duck blind, bicycle helmet, goldfish crackers, goldfish (actual fish) DVD player, dog collar, entertainment center, 3 yards of felt, plumbers helper, fishing pole, 25 pounds of screws, the new Everquest expansion, and a fry daddy, you only have one stop to make if there is a walmart in your town Cool.

Jack, what is more important to you?

The welfare of the few dozen or hundred people who own/work in the small stores that Wal Mart puts out of business or the welfare and quality of life of the thousands to tens of thousands of people who shop at the stores and are better off with lower prices (as they are voting with their hard earned dollars)? I would think a socialist like you would be all for the greater good, but you have the union mentality. Protect the privileged few in the club, and make everyone else suffer.

Small stores can still survive by offering better service or quality - it is called the free market.

Would you rather have your car made by a specialty shop and cost you 50,000 for the equivalent of a Chevy sedan, or made by a goliath like GM and cost you $20,000? One phrase rules economics here economies of scale Wal Mart and large corporations can achieve them, mom and pop cannot.

Wal-Mart will be brought up for uncompetitive business practices under anti-trust legislation within hte next 10 years due to the way they deal with their suppliers.

.

Hey nooby read my post again.
I SAID I shop there.
But its still a b***h that small business suffers.
You can have all the best possible service in the world but if I can get something fast and 4 times as cheap...Im going there.
Walmart buys in bulk and sells so cheap its impossible to compete thus small business owners close shop and join the ranks of the clock punchers.
Shrug...retail is hell on earth, lifes a b***h

Wal-Mart doesn't support American manufacturers, so why should we support them? Because they provide the American lower-class with $6.50/hr jobs??? Gee thanks!

The Wal-Mart in my town pays a hell of a lot more then $6.50/hr according to everyone I have met that works there. They also have 100% flexible hours.

This is the first positive comment I've ever heard about Wal-Mart pay, policy or management.

In this state, MD, you have to take a paied 15 minute break if you work for 4 hours, a unpaied 30 if you work more then 6, and another 15 at 7hours, it keeps going too I think.
