Only half of this image loads. Probably not even half. More like 30%.

Months ago I read something similar to this.
Quote:
Background: Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show.
Recently, she said that as an observant Orthodox Jew homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned in any circumstance.
The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet Smile
Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law.
I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to follow them.
a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord (Lev. 1 :9). The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21 :7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.
d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
e) I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?
g) Lev. 21:20 states that' may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
i) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse, and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-In-laws? (Lev. 20:14), I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging. Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

Bible says no to more than homosexuality
by Jim Smith

In Massachusetts in 2001, seven gay couples attempted to procure marriage licenses from the proper authorities. They were all turned down and promptly sued the state.

This Wednesday, the court ruled that same **** marriages must not be any different from traditional heterosexual marriages.

In response, the White House has commented that it finds the ruling "deeply troubling." President Bush has said that he believes marriage to be a sacred bond between a man and a woman.

This "separate but equal" deal sure seems to be a mainstay for conservatives, doesn't it?

In pondering just how it is that anyone not stuck in the 15th century can claim with a straight face that the human right to pursue happiness takes a back seat to notoriously ill-defined abstracts such as "morality," I can't get around this word sacred and what it implies.

This elitist view of marriage as a holy thing reserved for certain people has stood in the way of social progress here in the states for quite awhile, and if people like Bush stay in power, it will continue to do so for a long time to come.

The main obstacle here to smooth societal progression is, as usual, right wing Christian fundamentalists.

The part I have yet to figure out, though, is how a bunch of people who claim to follow the "love thy neighbor" model of a magical carpenter in an archaic fairytale that was haphazardly appended onto the ass-end of Jewish religious texts, have managed to convince themselves that Jesus really hates gays.

Oh right, it's an "abomination," I forgot.

Well, we certainly can't have full grown consenting adults running around abominating left and right. We'd better set up a bigoted system of laws designed to single out and dehumanize them. That way, when we trounce their civil rights, it'll be okay, because they're not really people, they're just filthy homosexuals.

And as an added bonus, we can continue to have a morally pure society that Jesus himself would be proud to live in -- 100 percent queer-free, just like heaven.

I wonder if heaven is full of rich, white, elitist, hate-mongering a-holes like the White House?

But that's not fair. Let's back up a touch and look at this abomination theory in its proper context before discounting it.

It's clearly stated in Leviticus 18:22 that homosexuality is an abomination. I guess that pretty much settles it. Bush has God on his side.

But what about the rest of the Old Testament laws? Surely they should also be brought to bear on the heathens as well. After all, they also are the word of the Lord thy God.

Let's shed some light on the rest of you sinners.

For starters, there's incest. Truly a nasty deed, and worthy of holy punishment. In fact, a nauseatingly detailed list of specific forms of incest are systematically prohibited.

Then we have bestiality, forbidden for men and women alike. There are probably only a handful of you reading this that are into bestiality, but you should be ashamed, ashamed and afraid ... Jesus is watching.

Now for some of the less well known abominations.

Eating shellfish, for starters. Take heed all you seafood-eating sinners! Your day is coming soon. Brimstone and damnation upon your heads.

Even more confusingly, though, we have the prohibition of clothes woven of two different fabrics. That's absolutely right. Turns out Jesus hates a 50/50 cotton-polyester blend every bit as much as he hates gays.

This is interesting enough, but it gets better. Let's look at things prohibited by law today, but allowed by Old Testament biblical law.

I don't think we need to look any further than the buying and selling of slaves. This is an activity very much allowed in the Bible's laws, but mystifyingly prohibited in America today.

Something's very wrong here, the word of the Lord thy God is only being halfheartedly followed. Maybe if we all pray long and hard, President Bush will be granted the power to return this country to the state that God wants, and put everything back in its proper place, queers first, of course.

Now here's the beautiful part. Christians and others are going to look at these examples and say "Well, obviously clams and polyester are okay things, and we all know slavery is wrong. It's silly to even point it out, everyone knows that."

But some of these same people will turn around and insist wholeheartedly that somehow, gay **** is different, that it is somehow less subject to review.

Why do some of these antiquated laws still fall under divine protection while others have been cast aside? They were all set in stone to begin with, were they not?

There's obviously a system of reform in effect, or we'd still be stoning seafood enthusiasts to death.

Why do fundamentalist Christians refuse to accept that this reform can apply just as easily to gay **** as it can to fish?

Well, there's no genuine reason apart from human bigotry and prejudice, which are made all the more grotesque because they are shrouded in such misleading terms as "decency," "morality" and "family values."

It's for your own good, you see.

Bear in mind this might actually be a state of affairs that we could laugh at, were it not for the fact that the man in charge of all 286 million of us earnestly believes that for our own good, and for the love of the sweet Lord baby Jesus Christ, many of us must suffer persecution at the hands of bigots because it is demanded by the sacred fairytale.
