w is like the invisable string pulling you up through the top of your head. You want to be pressing it all the time.

a & d are like turing your head left and right, used in conjunction with mouse tilts left and right to correct over and move into a turn. By themselves a&d just look left and right (rudders)

mouse down = tilt back. treat it like you are looking up but realize that that invisible string pulling you up has thrust associated with it so looking up will produce a backwards motion.

mouse up = tilt forward. again remember that since the prop overhead is basically the same as a prop in front of a plane, once you tilt forward the thrust from above will be converted to thrust ahead.

The main stearing problem most have is useing the tilt left and right on the mouse wihtout sabilizing with the a&d keys.

Consider that mouse left and right are f*****g with you thrust and if you don't bring back a balance or compensate for it with the rudder you will go into a flat spin and be f****d.

My suggestion is just start a LAN game then practice with going up with the "w" key, then ONLY use a & d to get used to that axis. THEN work in ONLY mouse up and down to get a feel for forward and backward. THEN use the a key with the tilt mouse left to get a turn down, then try the other way (don't add mouse tilt up and down until you mastered every step in between or you won't get it).

good luck!
