Favorite movie is a toss up between The Kingdom and Hot Fuzz. Two totally different styles and genres, but at the same time so amazingly good that it's scary. For anyone who hasn't seen Hot Fuzz, watch it: I was laughing my ass straight off from about half way into the film right up until the end.
Boondock Saints I'd also recommend seeing if you haven't. It could have been much better had some special effects been added, but maybe that's why the film was so good at the same time?!?

Can't really narrow it down to just one movie, but A few are Saving Private Ryan, The Shawshank Redemption, Gattica, and I guess epic scale movies like that.

butterfly effect and i am legend were both awesome movies 
i am kind of a sci fi/fantasy geek tho  so i would have to put the lotr trilogy and the matrix trilogy up at the top of my list..
out of those two trilogies i would say return of the king and matrix reloaded were my absolute favs
