sometimes i think about it.
and i mean the kind of groups that go and plug up outflow pipes etc.

As a former oilfield worker (Halliburton), I'd be the first person in line to join an environmental group... as long as:
1) They used NO oil based products. This means NOTHING in your life can use gasoline, plastics, rubber or anything else derived from oil, including electricy or power. And if you say solar, none of the gear your use can be based on anything oil related. Guns can't use gun oil. boats must be made of animal skins and cannot be sealed with anything oil related, etc.
2) They have no political agenda, save for 100% enviromental friendliness.
Any takers?

Environmental groups are laughable. PETA gives money and support to ELF, which is nothing but a home grown terrorist organization. Environmental groups do more harm to the ecosystem, then they will admit.
I'm all for environmental groups that try to educate others on recycling or save dolphins from tuna fishing nets, etc...
But when you have some drugged up hippies, trying to block entrances into nuclear plants...I just floor it and run their asses over.

George Carlin does a great bit about environmentalists trying to "save the planet"
He makes the point that it's not about saving the planet, it's about saving your own ass, because the planet's still going to be around long after we are, heh.
