I am looking into getting a dvd burner to burn dvd's that I borrow from friends and such instead of buying them. Since I buy movies I watch twice and that is a really big waste of money for me.

So all I want to do is burn exact copies of another dvd.

the burner I think I should get

heres the media I think I should buy
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-132-367&depa=1

me and my friend where talking about but we dont have much knowledge on it. My worries are the dvd's will be protected and I wont be able to burn them. Or maybe they wont work on dvd players. or any suggestions that just tell how they work and what I need to buy to get it to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

the media you picked is +R so it will most likely have problems in a lot of dvd players. -R is more tollerant in my experience. there are websites that show which media from which mfgs are best. DVD and compatibility are a hard thing to master.

You cant make an "exact" copy of a DVD on 4.7G you need dual layer. 4.7 is like 2 hours and most movies are 2 hours but you also have special features. Most DVDs make sure they are over 4.7 for that reason, so you need to dvd shrink them. You wont notice any quality loss but that's what it does.

What Kireol says is true. I use DVD Shrink to make some of the bigger movies fit on a normal DVD and I don't notice any quality loss. I bought some DVD's and cases and burned around 100 from my local video store. They had an all you can rent deal for 30 bucks or something like that. Best money I've spent !

yep u rip it with DVD shrink a free util that will allow you to "shrink" the movie by removing such things as foreign languages, subtitles, and even tweak the quality a bit to get it on one disc. Then just use Sonic's Record
now to burn it. voila

i use dvd decrypter to rip my dvds, takes out encryption and makes um regionless for ya too which is a plus sometimes.. dvd shrink is a decent program but its kind of only good if you only need to shrink it a little bit, if its a full like 3 hour movie and your trying to fit it onto a dvd5 then dvd2one is prolly the better program for doing that.

As far as +r go, you run into a few compatibility problems but not many, prolly 85 percent of dvd players can play them, -R is prolly 90 percent so its not a hell of alot better, theres no quality difference either so its not a big deal imo.

These are a bit more difficult.

Usually take specialized programs to rip the DVD to a ISO. Probably faster to just search Suprnova for the game itself and download it.

Check http://www.gamecopyworld.com for more information or search for it as I haven't done it myself with PS2, though I did look into it for Xbox

hey Plat4pop, for PS2 games u can easily make direct copies using copy and burn image feature on Alcohol 120 unless it is a DVD9 which will not fit onto one 4.7 gig single layer disc.

remember as far as media goes you generally get what you pay for, so buying the cheapest shit you can find just means it gonna break/suck.
