I downloaded season1 of Stargate from suprnova. It's all in AVI format, so I assumed that was divx, correct? When I try to open an episode in divx player 2.6, my cpu usage shoots up to 100% and the program doesn't do anything. I have to ctrl+alt+del out of it at this point. Other avi's that I've downloaded work fine. Does this sound like a codec problem, or maybe I should get a different player?

sounds like a codec problem to me. Getting a new player and/or updating codes should fix the problem.

Oh, well it seems to work fine in wmp. Never thought to try it since I've never used wmp for anything before. Thought I needed a special program.

wmp will use whatever codecs it finds that potentially fit to play movies
i use it all the time .. sometimes it doesnt work and i use divx but for the most part it works .. usually using a Nero codec .. or a Cyberlink (powerdvd) codec
but now that i installed a bunch of funky ass codecs to try and get my PVR to record i dont know what it will do
