My cable company wants me to pick between some of the channels that I have now:
Showtime, Showtime Too, Showtime Showcase, Showtime Extreme, Showtime Beyond, Flix, The Movie Channel, and The Movie Channel Extra

or what's behind door number 2:
Starz, Black Starz, Starz Family, Starz Cinema, Encore, Encore Love, Encore Action, Encore Mystery, Encore True, and Encore Western

I hardly ever even watch TV, but I might want to some day so I don't want to make the wrong choice. If I switch I can't switch back. I don't even know what most of those are. Which is better?

Good enough for me, thanks Smile
And I don't know what the hell Black Starz is.

I would go with the second set, the first one (showtime) has no good movies when occasionally STARZ does. Like lord or the rings and goldmember.

On Black Starz, chances are, you're always guaranteed a movie with Will Smith in it.

Black Starz sucks for the most part. My cable package has all the HBO's, Cinemax's and the starz channels. The regular starz channels have some good shows sometimes. Men in Black 2, Beautiful Girls, and The New Guy were the last ones I watched on starz I think.

Men in Black 2 and The New Guy are two of the worst 'films' ever made. We don't need more Will Smith, contrary to popular belief. And, as far as Beautiful Girls goes--I don't know, never seen it--but it has Rosie O'donell in it. And she is neither beautiful nor (as far as I can tell) a girl, just wholly annoying.

Starz has the best movies, in my opinion. Of course, that's all they have.
Both packages have websites. You could compare programing if you wanted to.

Starz at www.starzsuperpak.com i believe. Not sure about showtime.

I agree, Showtime sucks. HBO and Cinemax are both better than Showtime. I used to get HBO, Showtime, but I switched to Cinemax becuase Showtime never had anything worth watching. The stuff behind door #2 is gonna be mostly old(er) movies though, which can be good or bad, depending on what you like.

i didn't read the thread, but i believe you can choose to order premium channels a la carte. there was an article on slashdot about this some time ago, although the cable company will try to force you to buy premium channels in a package deal, you can pick and choose which ones you want and only pay for those ...

i'll see if i can't find the article about this

The New Guy is great!

'This is like getting the 50th level of Kunark!'

The message board obsession reference is hilarious too. If you don't find this movie funny, perhaps you can't laugh at yourself.

I just switched from having all the Showtime Channels and HBO Channels to having all the Cinemax Channels and HBO Channels. I found that, over the last two months, Showtime had NOTHING that I wanted to see whereas there were several movies that Cinemax channels had.

Down here, the Starz channels are offered separately so I don't get them, but when I was in NY, I did. I found myself watching those channels, at times, more than any other of the premium services.

Aside from the weekly new releases that continue to be played after their Saturday premiers . . .

Maybe on the main Starz and Encore channel. I said mostly because "most" of those channels are gonna have mostly old movies. I have all that stuff and I like watching old westerns and war movies and such, but not everybody would.
