I know this thread has been done before but I read through all the posts and none had any great info.
I am graduating/my birthday is coming and my parents said they would give me 1k to buy a laptop. Which is a pretty good amount for a laptop. But I am willing to put 500 or so of my own money into it also.
I am looking for something I can use as a gaming rig for lan parties and such, take notes with, or just use to sit around and browse the web. But mostly as a gaming rig so I don't have to drag my compuer/monitor/shit around with me on campus and look like a idiot when I go to a lanning or something.
So anyone know of any for around 1500 or any sites I could build one?

1500 isn't going to get you a gaming rig, sorry.
Second, lan parties aren't exactly "happening" items in college, despite what you may have heard. I used to go to them all the time in high school...it just doesn't happen in college.
Most people I know have Dell's, they're pretty solid. checkout dellauctions.com if you want a good deal.

Dell, Acer and IBM are the best of the laptop manufacturers, but if you want to use it for work too, the Toshiba Toughbook would be a good choice.

When it comes to lap tops I always buy Toshiba. They have never let me down. I don't use them for gaming so I don't know how they are for that, but everything else works like a dream.
DO NOT buy IBUYPOWER. They do not honor their warranties.

for gaming? dell alll the way amazon.com is a good website and you might get lucky and find a cheap one on Ebay.
