Quote:
— NEW YORK (Reuters) - A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed during a routine training mission out of Fort Drum in upstate New York on Tuesday, leaving at least two survivors but an unknown number of dead, authorities said.

U.S. Army Major Daniel Bohr of Fort Drum would not immediately confirm how many people were on board and said rescue operations were continuing.

MSNBC, citing Pentagon sources, reported the helicopter was carrying nine people when it lost radio contact about 2 p.m. EST.

The helicopter can carry as many as 15 people.

The injured were taken to Samaritan Medical Center in nearby Watertown, N.Y., a hospital spokeswoman said.

Their conditions were not disclosed.

The crash occurred in a training area on Fort Drum property, said authorities, who sent several search and rescue teams out shortly after the aircraft went missing.

Officials said at a briefing at Fort Drum, located near Watertown, N.Y., and home to the Army's 10th Mountain Division, that the crash occurred in a remote area blanketed with snow.

The UH-60 Black Hawk is a medium-lift cargo and troop helicopter that is considered the Army's workhorse.

We all pray for Peace on Earth. But the reality is that nearly every generation is called upon to preserve it. Until the fateful day of September 11th, very few Americans saw a war on the horizon. Now nearly every American knows we must fight and win in Iraq, and elsewhere if necessary, to defeat global terrorism. The effort cannot end until terrorists are brought to justice, however long and whatever the cost.

The hour is at hand. The choice facing your generation is clear: If terrorism is not defeated, the future of our nation is uncertain. We now face a threat as dangerous to our way of life as any in our history.

May God bless the fallen and those who remain undaunted, ever ready to meet our every challenge.

It has everything to do with it, Kireol.

Do you honestly believe that G. W. Bush, Jr. would be out there campaigning for invading them if not for the events on that day? I honestly do not. We waited 10+ years for them to "disarm".

While they are/were probably not *directly* tied to the events there - as in - they were not Iraqi agents and shit, the whole area is a "hotbed" of terrorist/fundamentalist/extremist activity.

The whole perceived "threat" actually got some teeth on that day as well. Sure, there were bombings at U.S. Embassies in overseas countries, but nothing quite strikes home like reducing a national symbol to rubble on our own turf in one of the biggest cities in the world.

I repeat, the war on iraq has little to do with 9/11.

If you think differently, then watch the news a little bit and actually educate yourself for once.

What's infuriating is that any tie between Iraq and 9/11 was dismissed by our government for close to a year... and now all of the sudden we hear Powell suggest otherwise!

Whatever. They may have their reasons for going after Iraq, but don't confuse the issue to gain public support.

All of this is very likely to be true.

The one other factor is that GWB needs to put a face to the enemy. At first, that face was BinLaden, but so far BinLaden continues to evade capture which is a HUGE embarassment to GWB. Hussein serves as a convenient substitute.

Look at it this way dimwit.

9/11 was caused by people why want to see this country at least do bad, if not totally implode.

The people who hold this world view live in a certain area of the world. I don't care what you call them, what sect they are, what religion they follow, just care where the heaviest concentration of them live. So, knowing where they are, and understanding that one of the countries they live in is run by a madman is the start. Next step is to get a foot hold in that area of the world, guess how we plan on doing that:) Afghanistan was first, Iraq will follow very soon. Take them over, remove hostile /unstable government, install friendly government and stay there till it takes and more. No more begging turkey for permission to use their land in any future operations, we can use iraq! Some unnamed countries, besides the ones we will take over LOL, don't like this tactic.

Isn't that a shame.

This is the tactic 9/11 ignited.

SO, 9/11 has EVERYTHING to do with it.

And always remember..

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, or in this case....invaded!

Cool

How is it an embarassment? Bush said very early on that this may take many years and Rumsfeld repeated that their goal was to destroy al queda, not go after some figurehead. If Bush said, "We'll have him before the year is out", then it could be construed as an embarassing failure. Otherwise, shut the f**k up, you french b*****d.

8 of those 10 years we waited because Americans elected a worthless pair of politicians into the whitehouse. Clinton/Gore appeased North Korea (which is our next stop/situation once the Iraq issue is settled), and instead of exterminationg Al Qaeda after the embassy bombings they decided to just launch a couple dozen cruise missles at them. Which is a big reason 9/11 ever came to pass, all he did was p**s them off even more. You can thank the democrats for this Smile

last time I saw this much ignorance, I was reading a post by Minion.

I'll spell it out for you since you live in the back woods somewhere or didnt get past the 6th grade.

War on Iraq mostly = disarming iraq so they don't hurt israel and others. have you bothered reading the 892347892374892347834 posts on realpoor about this? even THAT could teach you something about the war on iraq.

9/11 = al qaida(sp?) terrorists. Not a country or goverment. a small organized group led by a madman hell bent on becoming famous and being put in the history books, or whatever his reason is/was.

I suppose that you think that 9/11 is also the only reason for our sluggish economy? If that's the case, then read up on what bill clinton did for his presidency periods, and what that did for us. remember, bill clinton ran on the coat tails of republicans work and a technology surge. and now a republican is fixxing it again.

have another beer there kbarr.

It's people like you that make GWB's job easier. You are so confused and ignorant that you don't care. You see arabic people and think "let's get them f*****s for 9/11!!!!!!!!!!!!", when that's NOT why we are going to war.
