Remember, Austin is the "live music capital of the world"
So, no bar or resteraunt is allowed smoking, even if there is a sectioned off smoking zoo. That is of course unless The bar purchaces a licence. So, nothing changes, the people have levied an extortion on the bar and resteraunt owners.
Why dont they just make smoking illegal. The could get plenty of support from the law enforcment. After all, it is for the children.

As great as that would be, it would cause much outrage.

Good idea.
My county is trying to raise property tax to pay for schools. Why not tax shit like tobacco?

You misunderstand.
There is a huge difference between me standing next to someone whos smoking, and breathing second hand smoke, then there is breathing emision polluted air.

Furthermore, driving my gas-burning car to 40 miles roundtrip to work and back is necessary. I'm not riding a pedal bike all that way.
You getting your buzz and killing your lungs is far from necessary, and if you want to do it, you can have fun paying for it.

Frankly, I think cigarettes should be totally outlawed. Second hand smoke can be an killer to people who have never even smoked. Yes I realize that cars pollute and blh blah blah, but they have a legitimate purpose in society. Cigarettes serve nothing more then calming someone down or being social, both of which are not near important enough to risk lung cancer for an unwilling participant.

I can agree with this to a point...
I'm a smoker
I don't smoke inside anywhere but my own place, my car, and bars.
If someone is at my place or riding in my car that does not smoke, then I don't smoke inside during those times.
At a bar, if it were banned, I'd only be upset because of the fact that drinking increases my urge to smoke.
If I am outside and I see someone coming I'll move away so that the smoke is farther away from them. Doubly far if there's a young child as they can't decide to move away at the same time.
Granted if someone starts the b******t fake hacking that they sometimes do I'll blow it their direction. I do my best to not cause you problems, why be a d**k? I'm 15 ft from you, you're walking past, there's no reason to be that way.

you cant extrapolate from the war on drugs that if you made them illegal, you would not reduce the number of cigerettes one bit, but you would add a violent lucrative criminal element to it? You cant see that you gain nothing and loose a ton? you actually think that if they were illegal, you would never smell a cigarette? wake the f**k up

If they were illegal, they couldn't be mass produced by the big tobacco companies, and you would see less of them. Not everyone who smokes is willing to break the law. They wouldn't disappear, but they would be seen much less. And of course, not at all in public facilities.
Regardless, no one here actually thinks that tobacco would ever be made illegal.

If you're going to get cancer, you're going to get cancer. If you're going to die, you're going to die..you can be hit by a f*****g bus tomorrow, the world can go into a nuclear war..anything can happen. Until this country is no longer free, i'll smoke happily.
I am quite tired of this shit to be honest, it's right up there with the gun control frenzy we've been in the last some-odd years.

Hundreds of thousands of people being forced to quit cold turkey and niccing out is worse for your health than second hand smoke.

Certainly years of chain smoking would have 0 affect on this possibility.

No, what you would see are cigarettes mass produced by the big tobacco cartels who carry automatic weapons. Are we not better off with Phillip Morris? I dont remember the last time they had a judge excecuted. We were able to punish the tobacco companies by "suing" them. Do you think will be able to sue the cartels?

Thats not true. I think you will make it illegal.
You said you support it. you already made it illegal for a buisness owner to cater to that market. Why wouldn't I extrapolate that, next, you will make it illegal to smoke in outdoor public places such as parks, then indoors in public housing, then for welfare recepients, then for appartments and duplexes. From there its just a minor step to just make it illegal. They all use the same argument, it is for the children after all.

I think banning smoking in resturants is totally reasonable. I smoke, and
hate the smell of cigarettes while im eating. Bars are a different story.
For me, and I'm sure many others... when you drink.. you smoke, they
just kinda go together. You dont go to a bar to drink f*****g orange juice
and be healty anyways. If you're gonna sit in a bar and pollute your
bloodstream with alcohol may as well suck down some smoke eh?
